FCA Uganda is now looking for competent persons to fill the Position of Project Officer – Youth Engagement & Livelihood, for the Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative (RETI) project.
Role Purpose: Finn Church Aid (FCA) is one of the consortium partners for the Refugee and Host Community Youth Empowerment and Transformation Initiative (RETI) program in Uganda. RETI is a collaborative program with Muni University and seven other partners, implemented with support from the Mastercard Foundation. The program aims to address unemployment challenges faced by young people aged 15 – 35 years in 15 refugee hosting districts in Uganda, particularly focusing on young women.
Job Summary: As a Project Officer – Youth Engagement & Livelihoods, you will be a key team member within the RETI program, focusing on livelihood and youth engagement components. Your role is instrumental in the implementation of activities that empower young people, both from refugee and host communities to access livelihood opportunities, develop necessary skills, and engage in various project interventions. Your responsibilities include coordinating activities, monitoring progress, and ensuring that the program’s goals related to livelihood and youth engagement are achieved.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Livelihood Interventions:
- Work closely with project partners, including universities and non-university organizations, to implement livelihood activities.
- Identify and assess livelihood opportunities for young people, including vocational training and job placement.
- Ensure the smooth execution of livelihood and entrepreneurship programs.
Youth Engagement:
- Facilitate youth engagement activities, such as mentorship, soft skills development, and forums for knowledge sharing.
- Foster an inclusive environment for youth participation in project initiatives.
- Collaborate with partners to organize events and activities that promote youth engagement.
Training and Capacity Building:
- Plan and organize training sessions, workshops, and awareness campaigns related to livelihood opportunities.
- Provide support to young people in enhancing their skills and entrepreneurial capabilities.
- Offer guidance on creating and running youth-led initiatives.
Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Implement monitoring and evaluation procedures to assess the impact of livelihood and youth engagement activities.
- Collect data, document outcomes, and generate progress reports.
- Recommend improvements based on results and feedback from beneficiaries.
Stakeholder Coordination:
- Collaborate with a network of project partners, government entities, and non-governmental organizations.
- Engage with private sector actors to create opportunities for young people.
- Establish and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders.
Gender Sensitivity:
- Promote gender-sensitive approaches to ensure that young women are equally represented and benefit from project activities.
- Address specific challenges faced by young women in accessing livelihood opportunities.
Youth-Centered Approach:
- Act as an advocate for youth concerns, needs, and voices within the project.
- Promote youth-centered decision-making and participation in project activities.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Development Studies, Social Sciences, Business Administration).
- At least five years of experience in project management, particularly in livelihood and youth engagement programs.
- Strong understanding of the challenges faced by young people in accessing education, employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities.
- Excellent coordination and organizational skills.
- Knowledge of monitoring and evaluation processes.
- Familiarity with gender-sensitive programming.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience working with youth, particularly those from refugee backgrounds, is an advantage.
