About US:
Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research Organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, healthcare and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza- like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also epidemiological, basic and implementation research in HIV treatment, care and prevention programs in the Districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma and Buikwe.
Job Summary: The Human Resource Assistant will support day to day activities of the HR Office, i.e. supporting staff entry, stay and exit processes.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the HR Manager to post job openings in the media promptly.
- Assist the HR Office in screening job applications according to predetermined criteria.
- Verify candidate references.
- Prepare induction/orientation materials for new staff.
- Ensure timely placement of new staff and monitor probation periods.
- Aid in administering initial stages of staff performance-related processes.
- Maintain and update staff files/records while maintaining confidentiality.
- Assist in enrolling new hires in the medical scheme.
- Support the HR Manager in organizing staff engagement programs.
- Follow up on employee concerns and complaints as guided by the HR Manager.
- Perform other delegated duties by the supervisor or HOD.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Degree in Administration/office management studies or related field from a recognized University
- At least two years of related work
- Must have a very good grasp of the Uganda Labour Laws.
- Experience in a clinical/research setting is a plus.
- Excellent Oral and Written English and Luganda
- Good computer knowledge
- Highly organized, detail oriented and self-motivated.
- Integrity and confidentiality are strongly desired.
- Organizational skills
- Have people skills
- High level of emotional intelligence and communication skills
- Ability to multitask
- Team oriented
- Ability to travel and work at all MUWRP sites / reside their if required.
