Job Title:  Senior Data & Analytics Associate

Yalelo (U) Limited is a tilapia fish farm that was established in Uganda in 2019. The farm is located in Butembe, Buikwe district on the shores of Lake Victoria. Yalelo Uganda is a subsidiary of First Wave Group B.V; a Dutch company with a portfolio of aquaculture related assets in Africa. First Wave Group owns and operates Yalelo Zambia, a pioneer of Aquaculture founded in 2011 that has grown quickly to become the leading fish farm in Zambia and among the largest aquaculture farms in Africa.

Job Summary:   The Senior Data & Analytics Associate is responsible for overseeing the quality and uptime of existing D&A data repositories, data engineering & reporting, managing the workflow of Data Analysts(s), leading ad hoc projects to build data visibility and systems in Processing, Distribution and Financial operational teams, and completing in-depth analysis for key insights into business problems.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Data Analysis

• Ensure Quick real-time overview of Profitability and Efficiency Financial Rations to Support in Financial Analysis
• Quickly breaks down business problems into theoretical questions.
• Research best method to approach and undertakes analysis with quality.
• Applies existing data to business problems and evaluates areas of data unreliability.
• Presents findings in digestible, action-oriented terms.
• Completes in-depth statistical analysis in Excel, and has exposure to other packages: R, STATA, SPSS, etc.

Data Visualization

• Designs visuals to the user of the report or dashboard
• Trains teams on practical use of visuals for decision-making
• Research best fit for visuals to communicate desired story.
• Fully proficient in Power BI software

Database Management

• Builds data models that are understandable by other team members.
• Champions new data source types with consultation of online and team resources
• Fully proficient in M Query and DAX language for building output tables from databases

Project Management

• Completes planning and design with intention and thoughtfulness at project initiation.
• Communicates with all project parties in a timely manner.
• Delegates effectively to subordinates and project partners.

Team Management

• Approaches trainings with hands-on facilitation to ensure positive results.
• Offers timely and helpful feedback to direct reports and supervisor.
• Completes 1:1s, OKR review, and semi-annual reviews with subordinates.
• Manages communications with third-party service providers and developers as needed.
• Champions learning initiatives to expand D&A capabilities.

Systems Orientation

• Proactively suggests improvements in data systems.
• Builds out new data systems as needed within operational teams.
• Supports the Data & Analytics Manager to implement cross-functional data systems.

Other Responsibilities

• Complies with all local legislative and regulatory requirements.
• Ensures adherence to cleanliness, hygiene, and sanitation standards.
• Ensures adherence to workplace health and safety requirements.
• Acts in an ethical way when dealing with company assets and other people.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science (or equivalent experience).
• A minimum of five years of relevant experience as a Data Analyst/Scientist/Engineer.
• Strong background in Data and Business Analysis.
• Extensive experiences working with one or more BI platforms, such as Power Bi and Tableau.
• Working knowledge of data modelling (for example, dimensional modelling) and data analysis in a data warehouse. Experience with Python is desirable.
• Comprehensive knowledge of SQL and the capacity to create and analyse complex SQL queries.
• Excellent knowledge of database management systems and the ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) framework.
• Effective communication, presentation, and problem-solving abilities.
• Understanding of business processes, best practices, data lifecycles, and standard operating procedures.
• Knowledge of ERP systems like D365 is Preferred.
• Thorough knowledge of customer requirements and a drive for client success.
• Display your commitment to excellence in craftsmanship, ongoing improvement, and team success.
• Experience working with implementing the ETL process is an added advantage.
• Solid experience with Cloud Data Warehouses like Azure & AWS is preferred.
• Some knowledge of Source Control(git) and CI/CD pipelines is desirable.
• Nice to have some experience with advanced data analysis using Machine Learning.
• Possess problem-solving aptitude.
• Good English communication skills.
