Job Summary: The Mechanical Machinist will be tasked with operating workshop machinery and producing quality work pieces with precision and accuracy in compliance with the OH&S regulations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Mechanical Maintenance Operations
- Operates and maintains lathe and milling machines and other workshop machines.
- Reviews drawings, instructions, blueprints or samples to ensure accurate production.
- Takes precise measurements for cutting or shaping.
- Selects appropriate machines’ and settings for a given task.
- Plans proper sequence of tasks to complete the assignment.
- Monitors production, adjusting feed and other settings as necessary.
- Maintains inventory of completed products.
- Checks output for quality assurance and documents or discards defects.
- Identifies need for and performs machine maintenance and minor repairs.
- Maintains a safe and clean workstation.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related tasks as needed.
- Produce precision tools.
- Analyzing specification charts, samples and drawings to gain a thorough understanding of requirements
- Developing a plan of action to manufacture parts according to specifications
- Measuring and marking raw materials needed to manufacture parts
- Setting up equipment required to complete each step of the manufacturing plan
- Operating equipment to carry out each step correctly
- Monitoring the production process and intervening when problems arise
- Inspecting finished parts for flaws and defects
- Maintaining equipment located throughout the machine shop
- Secure, set up and adjust workpieces and cutting tools throughout your shift to ensure precision and adhere to safety protocols and regulations
- Smooth over the surfaces of products and parts as needed to ensure high-quality final results
- Use all necessary specifications to drill, mill, turn, grind and shape mechanical parts
- Check all completed machine components for defects, and make all necessary modifications before approving them
- Keep a close and careful eye on the overall speed and feed of the machines throughout your shift in an effort to reduce accidents, ensure product is of the right quality and maintain optimum machine operation
- Present all fully completed workpieces to quality assurance to make sure they are in line with the company’s standards and the necessary specifications
Standards
- Comply with regulations, company goals, Rules, local permits, policies and procedures; Optimize the internal processes and structures.
OH&S and Environment
- Guarantee compliance with OH&S and environment policies.
- Comply with all health, safety & environment procedures to ensure zero harm and as well Contribute to plant cleanliness.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- National Diploma in machining and fitting or an equivalent.
- Experience working with machine tools or mechanical assembly.
- Working knowledge of safety protocols.
- Apprenticeship or vocational training preferred.
- At least eight years of experience running a machine shop with Lathe, shaping, milling, drilling, rolling, and CNC machines.
- Experience in FMCG and heavy industrial environment preferred
- Excellent coordination and mechanical skills
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and safety
- Solid written and verbal communication skills
- Proficient in math
- Basic computer skills
- Excellent at drawing drafts and key sketching skills.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform repetitive tasks
