Since then we have grown into a multi sector business comprising of a bakery, wheat mill and paper recycling plant. With household names like Kaswa baking flour, AAA tissue and our bread which has come to be simply known as Ntake, we have endeared ourselves to the hearts of many Ugandans.
Job Summary: The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for maintaining high availability and reliability and overall efficiency of the equipment by ensuring that mechanical jobs are carried out safely, efficiently and at optimum cost.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Determine and schedule the necessary actions of corrective and preventive mechanical maintenance in coordination with Electrical and Preventive installations.
- Willing to work in Shifts and able to handle both production and maintenance activities
- Ensure free flow of communication between all departments in the factory.
- Ensure proper planning and scheduling of planned and unplanned work.
- Identifying critical parts of mechanical equipment (based on risk assessment) and proposing optimal stock levels of spare parts.
- Communicate and implement regulations, company goals, local permits, policies and procedures.
- Supervise personnel to apply them consistently and ensure ISO compliance for related activities.
- Consider new techniques and/or technologies to optimize mechanical maintenance cost and improve the technical condition and functioning of the installed equipment.
- Evaluate current production activities and make recommendations for improvements
- Implement cost-reduction initiatives while maintaining high-quality standards
- Observe adherence to safety procedures and environmental regulations for employees
- Plan and implement necessary training in the production department.
- Monitoring and controlling production delays & costs.
- Manpower planning & control.
- Ensuring proper machine utilization.
- Develop operational strategies to achieve shift production targets.
- Initiate, supervise, monitor, and provide technical guidance on utilization repair & maintenance of factory machinery and equipment in accordance with professional regulations and standards.
- Develop technical specifications and terms of reference for the procurement of spares and or service to equipment.
- Implement maintenance strategies, procedures, and methods.
- Provide engineering support for production and maintenance activities to ensure maximum production.
- Perform engineering analysis to reduce downtime.
- Any other duties as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Work experience in a busy process or heavy industrial environment.
- Cultural awareness and sensitivity.
- Self-driven, results oriented.
- Able to work extended hours when required
- High level of integrity
- Good communication skills across the business
- Able to plan and prioritise
- Experience in managing dead- lines and work load
