Kampala University is a Private Chartered Institution of Higher learning that has existed since 1999. With its lake view Campus located at Ggaba -Kawuku lane, With branches in Luwero (Nakyewa), Jinja (Iganga Highway), Masaka (new Kkumbu), Mutundwe (Kigagga Zone) and Old Kampala, with sister Universities in the Region i.e The East African University Kitengela in Nairobi-Kenya and East African University Rwanda –Nyagatare Eastern province.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Participate in the planning and Administrative functions of library and information services.
- Establish and implement library and information policies and procedures
- Maintain clear and accurate records of all library resource books.
- Ensure that the correct issuing procedure is followed for all books and resources taken out.
- Accessioning (recording and stamping) all new books and other library materials purchased by the university.
- Liaise with other departments like the Finance department when billing and fining students and staff with damaged or lost library resources.
- Establish and manage the budget for library and information services, technology and media.
- Draft library reports for management meeting
- Analyze and evaluate library and information services, technology and media service requirements.
- Perform original cataloging and classification of print, audio visual and electronic resources.
- Develop and maintain special indexing systems and files for special collections
- Train the library users to effectively search the library catalogue, internet and other electronic resources.
- Supervise the stocking of books and categorizing them in the system
- Link with other institutions about access of reading materials for the University
- Any other duties that may be assigned to you.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- A Bachelors degree in Library & Information Science or its equivalent
- A masters degree will be added advantage
- Experience of 3 or more years in related field.
- A good understanding of the work of academic libraries with
- sound knowledge of library management systems
- Good IT skills including familiarity with MS Office and data management
- Skills in systematic reviews
- Respect of diversity and culture.
