About US:

The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution network and all the operational assets associated with the business currently leased to Umeme Ltd. The company monitors Umeme Ltd’s investment and distribution of power in Nine Service Territories covering over 74 Political Districts; it operates the Pole Treatment Plant at Lugogo, and also executes some Rural Electrification Schemes on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

Job Summary:   The Quality Assistant will provide support to the Quality, Safety, Health and Environment Officer in ensuring that all the produced poles conform to the set specifications and are produced in accordance with the set procedures and standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

• Carry out inspection of all seasoned poles being delivered to ensure only quality poles are received in the yard.
• Receive and sort the seasoned poles according to specifications
• Ensure stacking of seasoned and treated poles by size in appropriately selected areas in line with storage guidelines.
• Do scheduled monitoring of moisture content of all the stacked pole beds and make appropriate recommendations
• Do scheduled monitoring of the cracking levels of all the stacked poles and take appropriate actions to minimise the damage.
• Perform pre-treatment tests for acceptable pole length, diameter, physical appearance and moisture content
• Ensure best laboratory safety, health and environment practices are adhered to
• House-Keeping; ensuring that the lab is tidy and clean at all times as a safety measure
• Select and load the pole treatment vessel with quality poles prior to treatment.
• Test the moisture content of the poles before and after treatment to ensure proper chemical penetration of the poles.
• Carry out post treatment tests and report on the conformity of the attained penetration and retention to the set standards.
• Keep a record of all the poles undergoing seasoning, showing the seasoning level at all times and advise on the readiness for treatment.
• Carry out inspection of all the treated poles being loaded for delivery to customers and ensure proper documentation of the poles as per delivery guidelines.
• Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• The applicant must hold an A-Level certificate.
• Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology.
• High levels of trainability and always willing to learn
• Sufficient Computer literacy
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Traceable Track record of Integrity & Work ethics, committed team player who is result oriented
