We provide Comprehensive Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, HIV/AIDS and Nutrition.

 

Job Summary:   The Communications Officer is responsible for developing and implementing countrywide communications strategies to communicate with internal and external stakeholders. This position works closely with field project teams to capture, document and develop communications around project activities. This role also works closely with the HQ Brand and Communications team to cultivate content to be published in Medical Teams brand, marketing and fundraising channels, as well as ensure proper branding of visibility materials.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Story & Photo Collection

  • Coordinate with HQ liaison from Brand and Communications team on gathering requested photo, story, social media, and video content to support Medical Teams brand and private donor fundraising.
  • Visit field locations to gather images and stories to use in communication materials. Share updates with HQ office as requested.
  • Process photos and stories and upload to digital asset management system.
  • Manage country camera gear.
  • Participate in Global Content community of practice, attending trainings and forums and engaging in continuous improvement of Medical Teams brand and communications.
  • Oversee field content collection from and training for field communications focal points.

Social Media

  • Organize capture of social media content as requested by HQ Brand and Comms to showcase program activities at global brand level.

Brand & Visibility (Graphic Design)

  • Ensure visibility and branding materials are compliant with Medical Teams brand requirements.
  • Coordinate with HQ Brand and Communications for support and compliance.

Content Collection and Management

  • Manage photo and video content storage for country program.
  • Coordinate institutional donor content collection needs with field communications focal points.

Media Relations and PR – HQ

  • Coordinate and respond to media requests in accordance with Medical Teams policy.
  • Develop and submit pitch ideas to HQ public relations team as requested.

Country Media Relations

  • Host media and other official visitors during field visits.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation point for communication materials including publications, press releases and clippings, photographs, audio-visual materials, web resources about Medical Teams, its partners and stakeholders Respond to media requests in accordance with Medical Teams policy.
  • Participate in regular country program meetings to maintain a pulse on program happenings that can be pitched or communicated.
  • Maintain records of media coverage.
  • Manage media budget for country.

Budget Management

  • Monitor budget lines related to communications in all projects.

Brand & Visibility (Graphic Design)

  • Create visibility materials (donor branding, signposts, brochures, newsletters, media releases, fact sheets, etc.) according to Medical Teams and donor branding guidelines. – Could outsource this with HQ.
  • Create Partner Branding Guidelines in country language.

Program Communications Support

  • Conduct and create program reports for institutional donors on program communications activities.
  • Coordinate program communications for program participants (WhatsApp, etc.), engaging them in health information sharing.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, Child & Vulnerable Adult protection, and harassment-free workplace policies. Incumbents will remain alert and responsive to any child and adult safeguarding risks, acquire relevant knowledge and skills which will enable you to promote strong safeguarding practices, understand the child and adult safeguarding policy and procedures, and conduct yourself in a manner consistent with the Safeguarding code of conduct and behavior expectations.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, International Relations or a similar field is preferred.
  • Two years of communications experience with a humanitarian agency is preferred.
  • Experience working in emergency operations with an international NGO is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of current theories and practices in communication research, planning and strategy, and the role of mass media
  • Knowledge of how to present information to different audiences.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Excellent English communication skills; highly articulate verbally and in writing
  • Skilled in conducting interviews and managing relationships with media representatives and other stakeholders.
  • Proven writing and editing skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Graphic design skills are an added advantage.
  • Photography and/or video skills are preferred.
  • Adobe Creative Suite preferred.
  • Skilled at producing writing products for professional publications.
  • Ability to exercise considerable initiative to plan, organize and follow through to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to be flexible and manage stress, especially in situations which require a high degree of sensitivity, tact, and diplomacy.
  • Ability to act with integrity and maintain the highest ethical standards.
  • Ability to support Medical Teams Calling and adhere to the Medical Teams Code of Conduct
