About US:

The Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau (UPMB) was founded in 1957 as a registered faith based Non-Governmental Organization under the Trustees Incorporation Act (CAP 165) as Registered Trustees of the Uganda Protestant Medical Bureau. UPMB brings together Protestant Churches in Uganda involved in Provision of Health Services. It serves as a link between Government and / or Development Partners and UPMB-Member Institutions and provides support to its members through capacity strengthening, coordination, lobbying and Advocacy, public relations and translation of government policies.

 

Job Summary:   The Community Engagement Officer is responsible for ensuring that project activities are effectively implemented. S/he will also be involved in designing strategies, coordinating stakeholders and implementation of activities as well as contributing to organization-wide learning. The Project officer will work in collaboration with the other team members to strengthen the technical and institutional capacity of FBOs/CBOs/PNFPs to complement the existing efforts by GOU, Development Partners, Civil Society and other stakeholders to attain and sustain epidemic control in Uganda by 2020 and Beyond

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Strengthen Coordination within Faith Networks, Medical Bureaus, Regional Partners and Districts
  • Support Increased high impact Community based interventions for case finding and linkages
  • Increased evidence-based HIV Prevention interventions to reduce the risk of acquiring and transmitting HIV Infection
  • Keep abreast of developments in HIV programming and progress in order to advise and recommend tools and strategies to increase project performances and results.
  • Develop strategies to engage faith leaders, individuals and communities to promote access to health services by the children, women and men living with HIV who are not yet on antiretroviral therapy.

  • Support health facilities surge interventions aimed at preventing and detecting new HIV infections among pregnant and breastfeeding adolescents and women
  • Keep abreast of developments in HIV programming and progress in order to advise and recommend tools and strategies to increase project performances and results.
  • Develop strategies to engage faith leaders, individuals and communities to promote access to health services especially HIV prevention services by the children, AGYW, women, men living with HIV and key populations who are not yet on Antiretroviral Therapy.
  • Work with stakeholders to address rights, gender equality and the social and structural barriers that hinder access to services
  • Any other duties as may be assigned by the Supervisor consultation with the Project Manager .





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Community health, Public ‘health, health management, Nursing, social sciences or social works and social administration
  • A minimum of four years of experience in providing HIV prevention services, particularly to religious leaders. Experience gained through serving within a Government institution or NGO with proven ability to coordinate activities of different stakeholders at district and or sub national level.
  • Hands-on knowledge and skills in designing, planning, implementing and monitoring community activities for HIV prevention and PMTCT,
  • Previous experience in implementing and applying Quality improvement approaches and providing training to service providers and stakeholders.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational and written / verbal communication skills.
  • Willingness to travel within the supported districts.
