Contract Length:  12 months (with possibility of extension up to 36 months)

Start Date: November 2023 to be hired on annual basis

 

About US:

Partners for Community Health and Development Organisation (PACHEDO) is a development organization duly registered as NGO with Uganda NGO bureau and has been working in Uganda since 2007. PACHEDO is operational in the Districts of Gulu, , Lamwo, Amuru Adjumani, Yumbe, Terego and Kole Districts implementing programs in four main sectors of Health/Nutrition, Protection; Food Security and Livelihoods; and climate change/Disaster Risk Reduction; with the Head office located in Gulu City.

 

About NILE Project:

Through one of her donors- JICA- Japan International Cooperation Agency and NAM -Network for Action against Malnutrition, PACHEDO has received funding for a 36 months’ Nutrition Improvement & Livelihood Empowerment – (NILE) Project to be implemented in Adjumani refugee settlements (Ayilo I & II) and surrounding sub-counties of Dzaipi and Pakele in Adjumani district west Nile sub-region. PACHEDO is therefore actively seeking to recruit dynamic, highly motivated, Qualified and Competent persons to fill the positions indicated below for the NILE Project.

 

Job Summary:  The Natural Resource Officer will be responsible for the implementation of agriculture and all livelihood activities with caregivers care group volunteers, farmer groups, VSLAs and youths and children clubs and other project activities.  He/she will participate in conducting surveys and assessments to determine training needs, mobilizing and sensitizing communities and stakeholders, forming beneficiary groups, designing and conducting training of beneficiaries in climate sensitive agriculture, business skills, and post-harvest handling, supervision of the provision of seeds, small livestock, tools, and other inputs. Visit/follow up of crop development, home gardening, small livestock raising, creation of market linkages, and periodically advise/support beneficiaries to ensure successful implementation of the project according to proposal log frames.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Integration of Climate Smart Agriculture & livelihood in the care group model ensuring that issues of dietary diversity are addressed
  • Providing of the HH of care givers with different livelihood options
  • Providing financial literacy to the targeted beneficiaries.
  • Support establishment of community demonstration gardens
  • Develop SBCC messages on environmental protection
  • Perform other duties as assigned by project coordinator, the NILE project manager/assistant (NAM – partner institutions) and senior management of the organisation.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in any of the academic fields of; Organic Agriculture, Agricultural extension, Science in Agriculture, Agribusiness, Agriculture Economics or related fields is a must. Post-graduate degree is desirable.
  • Demonstrated understanding on livelihood development activities with at least 3 years of practical working experience;
  • Solid experience of community mobilization approaches and coordination with governments / local authorities.
  • Knowledge in value chain development, income generating activities and VSLA is desirable.
  • Knowledge of community approaches such as climate smart Agriculture is added advantage.
  • Experience in Humanitarian context, implementation with an NGO and conducting Nutrition surveys and collecting meaningful data is desirable.
  • Excellent communications skills both oral and written are desired.
  • Proficiency in respective local languages and Written English is a Must
  • Proficiency in computer packages such as Microsoft word, Excel, power point etc are of added advantage.
  • A valid motorcycle riding permit, including the ability to ride and care for a motorcycle is a Must.
