Job Summary: The HSE Specialist ensures compliance with quality, health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards, promoting a culture of safety and sustainability, and driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Quality Management:
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality management systems and procedures to meet or exceed customer expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Conduct regular quality audits, inspections, and assessments to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance.
- Monitor and analyze quality performance metrics and implement corrective actions as necessary.
- Facilitate training and awareness programs on quality management principles and best practices.
Health and Safety:
- Identify and assess workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and implement effective control measures.
- Develop and implement health and safety policies, procedures, and programs to ensure compliance with relevant regulations and industry best practices.
- Conduct safety inspections, audits, and incident investigations, and provide recommendations for corrective actions.
- Promote a culture of safety through training programs, awareness campaigns, and regular communication.
Environmental Management:
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and promote sustainable practices within the organization.
- Develop and implement environmental management systems and procedures to minimize environmental impact.
- Monitor environmental performance indicators, conduct environmental audits, and implement improvement initiatives.
- Provide guidance on waste management, pollution prevention, energy conservation, and other environmental aspects.
Compliance and Risk Management:
- Stay updated on relevant quality, health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards, and ensure organizational compliance.
- Maintain documentation and records related to QHSE activities, incidents, inspections, and audits.
- Conduct internal audits to identify areas of non-compliance and implement corrective actions.
- Identify and assess risks, and develop risk mitigation strategies to minimize potential hazards and incidents.
Continuous Improvement:
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives by analyzing data, identifying trends, and implementing preventive and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement improvement plans.
- Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance QHSE knowledge and promote a culture of continuous improvement.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Engineering or a related field.
- A relevant professional qualification in QHSE management such as NEBOSH.
- Familiarity with relevant standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and HACCP.
- Five (5) years proven experience in QHSE management, preferably in manufacturing or chemical distribution industry.
- Detailed knowledge of current Quality Control, Health, Safety and Environmental legislation and its application.
- Experience in conducting risk assessments, incident investigations and implementing corrective actions.
