gnuGrid CRB Limited was licensed by Bank of Uganda in November 2021 as the first-ever indigenous Credit Reference Bureau (CRB) in Uganda. We collect credit data on individuals and non-individual borrowers, validate data into meaningful profiles that are disseminated in form of credit reports and credit scores to enable credit providers make informed lending decisions.
Job Summary: Reporting to the Managing Director, the Head of Legal & Compliance is responsible for overseeing and managing the Legal and Compliance aspects of gnuGrid CRB Limited. The job holder should be detail-oriented and have excellent communication skills.
The role oversees the legal and compliance function, holds lead responsibility for the provision of legal services, and credit bureau dispute resolution, and ensures organizational compliance to data protection laws and regulations, company secretarial services and operational execution of the corporate governance framework of gnuGrid CRB Limited.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Draft and review various legal agreements and documentation, as well as facilitation of execution and filing with relevant regulatory authorities.
- Liaise with various regulatory authorities on behalf of the company.
- Ensure compliance with the company’s legal and compliance obligations. 4. Litigation Management and management of the external lawyers
- Train staff in the legal and Compliance obligations and matters.
- Draft policies, procedures, and standards in compliance with the legal and regulatory framework and in relation to information security management.
- Act as secretariat to the board and attend shareholder meetings.
- Advise the company’s board and management on general legal and compliance matters.
- Maintain a compliance tracker to ensure timely and accurate submission of statutory returns.
- Liaise with NITA-U to ensure implementation and compliance with the Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019
- Monitor changes in Credit Information Sharing, Corporate Governance, Environmental
- Social Governance and take appropriate action
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a degree in Bachelor of Laws.
- A Postgraduate Diploma in Legal Practice or information technology will be an added advantage.
- Additional qualifications in Information security management, compliance, risk management or data protection will be considered an added advantage.
- Five years of experience in legal practice preferably in a corporate legal capacity within a fast-paced and dynamic banking or fintech environment.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, interpersonal and collaborative skills, and the ability to communicate concepts to legal and non-legal audiences at all levels of the organization.
- Result-oriented and service-driven.
- Excellent analytical skills, the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines, as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives.
- Strong communication and analytical skills.
- Ability to establish relationships and influence key stakeholders at all levels of the organization in order to build the reputation of legal practices.
