Contract Length: 12 months (with possibility of extension up to 36 months)
Start Date: November 2023 to be hired on annual basis
About US:
Partners for Community Health and Development Organisation (PACHEDO) is a development organization duly registered as NGO with Uganda NGO bureau and has been working in Uganda since 2007. PACHEDO is operational in the Districts of Gulu, , Lamwo, Amuru Adjumani, Yumbe, Terego and Kole Districts implementing programs in four main sectors of Health/Nutrition, Protection; Food Security and Livelihoods; and climate change/Disaster Risk Reduction; with the Head office located in Gulu City.
About NILE Project:
Through one of her donors- JICA- Japan International Cooperation Agency and NAM -Network for Action against Malnutrition, PACHEDO has received funding for a 36 months’ Nutrition Improvement & Livelihood Empowerment – (NILE) Project to be implemented in Adjumani refugee settlements (Ayilo I & II) and surrounding sub-counties of Dzaipi and Pakele in Adjumani district west Nile sub-region. PACHEDO is therefore actively seeking to recruit dynamic, highly motivated, Qualified and Competent persons to fill the positions indicated below for the NILE Project.
Job Summary: The Driver recruited will have a key function of ensuring safety of the vehicle, drive staff, periodically maintain the vehicle in good mechanical condition and manage the administrative function of its’ movement.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Vehicle operations and Safety
- Defensively drive vehicle as per organisation fleet policy and national road traffic rules and regulations
- Conduct daily vehicle check (under bonnet, body, under vehicle, interior etc)
- Ensure cleanliness of vehicle and ready for use by staff.
Driving
- Routinely drive project staff (including expatriates from partner institution)/passengers or deliver errands within the identified areas, following the traffic regulations, safety instructions and situations and based on the travel arrangements of the passengers and/or delivery requirements.
Technical Maintenance
- Regularly check and maintain the main maintenance areas (e.g. oil, tire pressure, lights etc.), identify technical malfunctions, check potential repair alternatives, conduct repairs to the vehicles and/or send for repair, in consultation with the supervisor in case of major and minor repairs.
Administration
- Keep and update logbook of all driving activities, mileage, travel route, fuel and any incidents and accidents.
- Ensure insurances and taxes of vehicles are up to date.
- Filling incident report form in case of accidents
Additional activities
- Execute activities to support others based on request, like assist in logistic activities while out in the field.
Planning and Coordination
- Plan movement routes, coordination with other drivers.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold an O’ Level Certificate; A- Level Certificate is an added advantage. Valid driver’s license with classes ”A, B, CM,CH,DL and DM.”; Good driving record; Minimum five years driving experience; Fluent in English; NGO experience; Kiswahili language skills and knowledge of mechanics preferred
- Experience with NGO work environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of Ugandan Traffic Laws and regulations
- Effective verbal, presentation, listening and communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills.
- Ability to maintain composure always.
- Ability to speak and write in English
NB: This job needs an identification letter and recommendation from Local Council One(LC1) of home residence.
