The Uganda National Association of the Deaf (UNAD) is a Non-Governmental and non-profit Organization registered under the Uganda NGO registration statutes of 1989. It was established in 1973 as an umbrella organization for all Deaf associations and groupings in Uganda. UNAD envisions ‘Dignity for every Deaf person in Uganda’, and its Mission is to ‘Build capacities of Deaf people, promote sign language, advocate for the rights and lobby for access to services by Deaf people in Uganda.’
Job Summary: The Finance Volunteer will process payments and maintain finance reports. The ideal person will have an accounting background and interested in further career development in the finance and accounting profession.
We are looking for a Volunteer Finance Person to support our financial transactions, including expenses and book keeping.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with other team members to successfully execute various accounting tasks.
- Maintain company ledgers and daily financial transactions.
- Create financial documents such as bills, invoices, pay-orders, payables, receivables and purchase orders.
- Identify discrepancies in ledgers and accounts, tracking them to the source and correcting them.
- Manage payroll activities and release salaries.
- Verify payments and deposits made through the company account and
- coordinate with the bank.
- Create monthly reports for management and team members.
- Prepare balance sheets
- Track and reconcile bank statements
- Process tax payments
- Support monthly payroll and keep organized records
- Record accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Process invoices, receipts and follow up with clients, suppliers and partners as needed
- Provide administrative support during budget preparation
- Participate in internal quarterly and external annual audits
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold relevant qualifications in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related field.
- Work knowledge and experience as in a similar role
- Good knowledge of accounting and bookkeeping procedures
- Advanced MS Excel skills (creating spreadsheets and using financial functions)
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g. QuickBooks) will be an added advantage
- Organizational and time-management skills with ability to meet deadlines
- Attention to detail, with an ability to spot numerical errors
