About US:
The Hunger Project — Uganda (THP-U) is part of the Global Hunger Project. THP has been implementing integrated Gender Focused Community Led Development (GFCLD) programs since 1999, and so far, has presence in 10 districts in Uganda; in which THP-U has empowered 12 clusters of rural communities! villages known as Epicenters to end their own hunger and poverty through the Epicenter strategy.
Job Summary: The Finance Officer will support Finance and Administration department’s management of accounting system, policies and procedures in compliance with THPU’s established accounting standards, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), donor’s guidelines and regulations and legal requirements to support high-quality programs that will contribute to a realizing a world without hunger.
As part of an experienced finance team, you will help coordinate daily financial activities through the preparation and delivery of financial services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Accounting Processes, Coordination and Service Delivery
- In collaboration with the Head Finance and Administration she /he is responsible for facilitating payments to service providers and staff.
- Review, Records and maintains books of accounts.
- Participate in budgeting, financial reports, compliance and audits
- Ensures proper maintenance of THP Financial records, safekeeping and handling.
- Maintains staff updated pay roll and ensures that the organization conforms to all the necessary statutory requirements including deductions, and submitting to the relevant authorities, and Filling of returns for NSSF and P.A.Y.E.
- In collaboration with the Head Finance and Administration, maintains the organization’s property and equipment records (vehicles, computers and other general office equipment) Assets Management
- Ensure that all expenditure vouchers are properly sanctioned and backed by supporting document, and retire all field advances accountabilities by staff timely
- Participates in consolidation of the monthly, quarterly, semi- annual and annual accounts.
- Share information with staff and partners on financial accounting policies and procedural compliance issues.
Treasury and Banking:
- Initiate all online bank transactions / transfers as required and follow up all payments to their recipients
- Ensure cheque books are properly recorded and filed
- Establish control cash registers where need be.
- Prepare monthly bank reconciliations and Cash flows
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the Head Finance and Administration.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration (BBA) with bias in Accounting or Finance
- Accounting Profession ACCA OR CPA level 2
- Minimum of two years accounting experience, preferably with an international or local NGO, or a financial/banking institution.

- Ethical conduct in accordance with recognized professional and organizational codes of ethics.
