Job Summary: The Communications Manager collaborates with project leadership, technical staff, USAID, MSH Head Office (HO) communications colleagues, and key stakeholders to develop and implement communications strategies that promote visibility, convey project achievements to target audiences, and contribute to project success and organizational growth. The Manager ensures state-of-the-art communications approaches and systems are integrated across multiple project initiatives, develops compelling content, and promotes a culture of quality across various project documents. S/he provides communications guidance to project leadership, builds the communications capacity of technical advisors, and collaborates with project staff to develop messages, stories, and materials for target audiences. The Manager contributes to donor deliverables including Monthly, Quarterly and Annual Reports and Annual Work Plans and collaborates with USAID and other USAID implementing partners on the issues related to communication.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Visual Design and Product Development (50%)
- Manage the development of print and online publications, videos and photo essays, conference presence and events, and social media and web updates. Write and produce creative and compelling content that conveys technical information in clear and accessible manners to key audiences, including factsheets, blogs, success stories, press releases, and others. Contribute to effective donor reporting.
Stakeholder engagement strategy (20%)
- Work closely with USAID and implementing partners to define and implement communication priorities and activities. Liaise with donor communications officers to align strategies and enhance visibility within donor audiences.
- Conduct communications-related trainings for project staff.
- Define and implement audience-focused, results-driven communications strategies for USAID SSCS Activity, in collaboration with project and country leadership. Visual Design and Product Development
Sharing of communication materials (20%)
- Establish and implement standard operating procedures, mechanisms, and relationships for collection and organization of information, knowledge, and experience from the project and its partners, and for its documentation and distribution through relevant channels.
- Manage distribution and dissemination of materials and communications assets in hardcopy and online; coordinate with HO communications and knowledge management teams to maintain a system of information sharing and to establish digital and appropriate hard copy files for all publications and project communications and assets.
Branding and Visibility (10%)
- Ensure that the program’s identity, brand, and strategic messaging is in accordance with donor requirements and organizational strategies, and that all communications comply with the relevant USAID branding and marketing requirements and review and approval processes.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Health, or other related discipline.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in a relevant field of study
- At least seven years of progressively responsible, related experience is required Experience with public health communications and relevant technical areas required Demonstrated experience developing communications strategies, annual plans, and materials related to relevant project technical areas. Experience in the production of print and digital communications content and dissemination strategies, experience in photography/videography
- Excellent writing skills, with ability to convey complex technical information in clear, compelling language without technical jargon.
- Demonstrated graphic design, editing, and photography/video skills.
- Superior interpersonal skills and a demonstrated capacity to establish clear and concise communication with team members, senior management, and partner organizations across cultures to deliver results
- Understanding of USAID/donor, including trends, audiences, and requirements and experience in the implementation of USAID-funded global projects required
- Fluency in English required
