Job Summary: The Project Officer will implement Psychosocial Support (PSS) workshops for children, youth and caregivers in refugee settlements and host community areas in West Nile/South Western Uganda.

 

The position involves implementation of the PSS sessions in collaboration with a volunteer facilitator, ensuring the activities are implemented in compliance with War Child policies and standards; monitoring and reporting on activities implemented; including concerns identified.

 

Objectives of the job

  • Plan/ organize, conduct and document PSS sessions according to the War Child Holland methodology and standard.
  • Support the facilitators in learning on the job.
  • Report on activities implemented and concerns identified
  • Ensure accurate data collection and reporting.
  • Position in the organization and essential functional relations

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, conduct and document PSS sessions for children, youth and caregivers according to the War Child Holland methodology
  • Identification of beneficiaries in close collaboration with the Team Up facilitators, local structures and Team Leader.
  • Conduct home visits to support children and provide follow up of all referral cases.
  • Actively participate in weekly planning and review meetings.
  • Ensure active participation in monthly implementation plans of project activities.
  • Ensure quality and timely delivery of beneficiary sessions.
  • Mentor the facilitators regularly to achieve quality results.
  • Ensure the sessions are conducted in line with the WCH methodology and meet quality standards.
  • Prepare weekly planning of PSS Sessions together with the facilitators.
  • Collect information/ data for documentation of activities.
  • Timely project activity reporting in adherence to M&E requirements
  • Liaise regularly with (government) institutions and other key partners to provide updates and ensure visibility of the organization.
  • Ensure child protection concerns are identified and immediately reported to the Team Leader and child safeguarding focal person.
  • Responsible and accountable for assigned project assets during project life span.
  • Ensures that child safeguarding and protection procedures are adhered to in location of implementation of project activities
  • Submits regular and timely reports to the TL on progress towards outputs as well as challenges and successes.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the TL in fulfilment of the task.





Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Community Development, Social Work or any other relevant related field.
  • Ability to write and speak English is a must.
  • At least three years of field work experience, preferably with an NGO/INGO in the area of Psychosocial Support, Child Development
  • Strong understanding of PSS, Child protection, Youth and life skills programmes.
  • Good understanding of development themes such as child rights, protection gender, livelihoods and SRH.
  • Good understanding of dynamics in context, politics and culture of the South Western region and its refugee settlements.
  • Willing to live in remote areas.
  • Know how to ride a motorbike and possession of a valid riding license is a MUST
  • A preference is given to applicants from the specified region in the advert.
