Job Title:  Principal Legal Officer

About US:

Dairy Development Authority is a semi-Autonomous Agency under Ministry of Agriculture, Animal industry and Fisheries (MAAIE). Dairy Development Authority was established under the Dairy Industry Act of 1998. Dairy Development Authority’s Mission is “To provide dairy development and regulatory services that will ensure increased production and consumption of milk, sustainable and profitable dairy industry sector that contribute to economic development and improved nutritional standards in Uganda.”

Key Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Executive Director, the successful candidate duty station shall be at Dairy Development Authority (DDA) Head Office and shall be required to perform the following duties;

• Provide proactive legal services to the Board and Management of the Authority.
• Ensure compliance with the legal and regulatory system within which the Authority operates.
• Be the Secretary to the Board in providing secretarial services and preparation of reports for the Board and its Committees.
• Draft, review and interpret contracts/agreements, Memoranda of Understanding and all legal documents of the Authority.
• Develop and lead corporate legal strategy to promote and protect the Authority’s matters.
• Legal risk identification, management and mitigation.
• Provide legal advice and support to the Procurement & Disposal Unit, Disciplinary Committee, Project Management Committee, and other Management Committees.
• Participates in the Authority’s policies and operating guidelines.
• Liaise with the external legal institutions and firms to provide comprehensive legal services to the Authority in legal matters as the need arises.
• Establish and foster good working relationship with the Authority’s Stakeholders.
• In consultation with the Attorney General, represent the Authority in courts of law on all matters requiring representation.
• Undertake legal research on best practices on matters relating to the Authority‘s core business and propose appropriate recommendations thereon.
• Prepare the Legal Budget and Monitor its implementation;
• Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

• The applicant must hold an Honor’s degree in Law from a recognized University.
• Post graduate Diploma in Legal practice from Law Development Centre is a must.
• Master’s Degree in Law is a must.
• At least six years of working experience of which three (3) at a senior level in a reputable Organization.
