About US:
Following the signing of the Lusaka Ceasefire Agreement in July 1999 between the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and five regional States (Angola, Namibia, Rwanda, Uganda and Zimbabwe) in July 1999, the Security Council established the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC) by its resolution 1279 of 30 November 1999, initially to plan for the observation of the ceasefire and disengagement of forces and maintain liaison with all parties to the Ceasefire Agreement. Later in a series of resolutions, the Council expanded the mandate of MONUC to the supervision of the implementation of the Ceasefire Agreement and assigned multiple related additional tasks.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Within limits of delegated authority, the Vehicle Technician will be responsible for the following duties:
- Conducts maintenance and repairs that are required for the Auto electrical systems of UN-owned light and heavy-duty vehicles and MHE in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations.
- Ensures repair of the Auto electrical and electronic systems including, and not limited to (EVMS)Electronic Vehicle Management System, AC, Airbag, ESP/ABS, and the fully controlled hydraulic systems.
- Assists and updates information in the Electronic Vehicle Mentoring System (EVMS) and Fuel log software packages.
- Services the fault technical chart as recommended by the manufacturer and uses computerized diagnostic equipment and troubleshoots as required.
- Reviews the products’ complex electronic control systems, Identifying requirements of spare parts, universal and SST tools, and other workshop floor equipment, and to test parts and systems to ensure that they are working properly.
- Assists in reading and using electrical wiring diagrams and workshop manuals, disassembling, and assembling the electrical parts that need to be replaced during the routine preventive maintenance, and repairs, and for vehicles that were involved in accidents.
- Performs any other tasks that is required.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant for the United Nations Organisation Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) Vehicle Technician job must hold a High school Diploma or equivalent. Required. An Institute certificate for Vehicle Technicians is required. A valid driving license is required.
- A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in transport operations management is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one (01) for candidates who possess a first-level degree or higher.
- Languages: fluency in oral and written English is required.
