Job Summary: The Communications Officer will collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy to support the objectives of the Uganda office, the East Africa office and ASF’s global strategy
ASF is looking to hire a dedicated communication officer to join our team. The communication officer will support our internal and external communications strategy, write, create, and disseminate communication material, respond to inquiries from the public and media, and coordinate promotional events. To succeed as a communications officer, you should be able to think creatively and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A bachelor’s degree with experience as a communications officer or equivalent experience in a similar role is strongly desired.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with management to develop and implement an effective communications strategy to support the objectives of the Uganda office, the East Africa office and ASF’s global strategy
- Support project teams in the production and dissemination of timely communication materials in coordination with the communications department at HQ
- Write, edit, and distribute content, including publications, press releases, website content, annual reports, speeches, and other communication material that communicates the organization’s activities, products, and/or services
- Respond to media inquiries, arrange interviews
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with journalists, and maintain a media database
- Seek opportunities to enhance the reputation of the organization, and coordinate publicity events as required
- Maintain and update the communication agenda for Uganda programmes
- Maintain records of media coverage and collate analytics and metrics
- Support project teams in ensuring visibility and timely communication of project activities and interventions
Representation & Visibility
- Monitor and map possible ASF national civil society partners in areas of intervention
- Facilitate and coordinate relations with ASF national civil society partners
- Represent ASF in relevant structures and fora with national civil society and public authorities
- Ensure advocacy around ASF interventions
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant should preferably hold a Degree: Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, or related field
- Two to five years of relevant experience in a communications role.
- Knowledge and skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of design software (Canva/InDesign/Photoshop/Premiere Pro/…).
- Proficient in the use of Content Management Systems and website edition(WordPress)
- Languages: English required
- Good knowledge of social media
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Good time management and organizational skills.
- Advocacy techniques
- Commitment to ASF mandate
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment
