UETCL is also responsible for exports and imports of electricity to Uganda. Job Summary: The Head Operations and Maintenance will mainly operate and maintain the Transmission Grid Assets and Load Dispatch Facilities in an efficient, viable and safe manner in accordance with the Uganda Primary Grid Code and international prudent utility practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the running of the operations and maintenance department in a fair and transparent manner within given constraints including safety and environment.
- Formulate strategies for network voltage control, network topology and network security for implementation of system control and dispatch
- Supervise Energy Dispatch, and Systems Operations and Maintenance of:
- Substation Assets
- Transmission Lines
- SCADA System Hardware and Software
- Oversee Power System Protection, Energy Metering at Grid Interconnection Points.
- Lead in the daily operations of the Distribution Control Centre, Electricity Service Centre or Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
- Steer the installation, commissioning and maintenance on Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system, commissioning, and Integration of new assets onto the grid
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance works on equipment, auxiliaries, cables, energy storage or systems in accordance with schedule and maintenance procedures.
- Take lead in workplace safety checks, compliance, and monitoring through implementing Safe System of Work (SSoW) frameworks and safety regulations.
- Analyze constraints and risks associated with the formulation of contracts through active participation in negotiation of Power Purchase Agreements, Power Sales Agreements and Energy Exchange Agreements; as well as Operationalization of Power Purchase Agreements, Power Sales Agreements and Energy Exchange Agreements
- Analyze the impact of emergency responses and safety procedures on business operations and provide technical advice to the Chief Technical Officer
- Facilitate Transmission System Re-investments and monitor the condition and use of the Department’s tools and equipment
- Any other duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a bachelors’ of Science degree with honours in Electrical Engineering or related field from a recognised institution.
- A master’s degree in in power systems operations would be an added advantage.
- A minimum of twelve years of experience in power systems operations with at least 5 at a senior level.
- Must be a registered engineer and a member with the ERB.
- Possess a related post-graduate qualification in Leadership and Management.
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Computer literate
- Demonstrate background of personal and strategic leadership abilities
- Highly motivated, innovated and committed team player.
