About US:

National Union of Women with Disabilities of Uganda (NUWODU) is an indigenous women –led Disabled Peoples Organization. It is an umbrella Organization that was formed in 1999 with the overall purpose of bringing together all categories of girls and women with disabilities including the physically, sensory, and mentally impaired women.

 

Job Summary:  The Accountant will work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager and Finance and Administration Assistant in ensuring the safe custody of all NUWODU’s funds and ensure that cash transactions are balanced daily.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Ensure proper management of finances and assets of NUWODU.

  • Work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager in ensuring the safe custody of NUWODU’s funds.
  • Ensure that resources within his/her custody are properly deployed and utilized.
  • Work with different staff to appraise their accountability, receipting and banking cash balances from activities.

Undertake financial transactions as guided by the financial policies and procedures.

  • Prepare payment vouchers for the different NUWODU obligations at office.
  • Prepare the staff payroll and ensure all staff are paid their correct salaries as per their appointment letters and make statutory deductions as per NUWODU’s obligations.
  • Attend budgeting and budgeting control meetings within NUWODU. Maintain proper filing systems of all financial records.
  • Prepare and make timely payments for statutory deductions (PAYE and NSSF) in liaison with the Finance and Administration Manager.
  • Maintain timely payment for all project activities and to beneficiaries.

Planning, Monitoring, Evaluation and Reporting.

  • Plan and manage the workload in accordance with NUWODU policies and procedures.
  • Take responsibility for quality of work produced.
  • participate in the preparation of annual financial plans including cash flow forecasts.
  • Support field-based staff in developing good financial practices through capacity building.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal candidate should preferably hold a bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or Business Administration from a recognized College or university
  • Minimum level 3 ACCA or CPA Qualification or equivalent is desired.
  • Four years of relevant work experience in a similar position in Finance/Accounting and office Administration.
  • Three years of experience with a local NGO is required. Have computer proficiency in financial software and spreadsheet.
  • Proficiency in mobile money payment systems.
  • Familiarity with USAID, UN and EU regulations is essential.
