Job Summary: Our client in concrete and construction business seeks to hire an Operations Manager to support the General Manager in handling all aspects of operations including contract management, order processing, inventory management and control, business planning, supply and equipment logistics, yard operations and administration of the daily operations of the Operations Department.
He or she will report directly to the General Manager and the role’s duty station would be at the Head Office here in Kampala. However this role will require him or her to make regular visits up-country to project sites and Yard. The main overall aim of this role is to support the General Manager, ensuring projects move forward on time and on budget and that daily visibility of project performance is achieved.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supporting the GM in daily tasks regarding the Operations of the company.
- Management oversight of staff including (but not limited to) Yard staff and Project Teams etc.
- Ensures that the procurement of goods and services is coordinated with the Finance and Administration teams and that this is in compliance with required SOPs.
- Checks operational feasibility of contracts with customers and customer purchase orders.
- Partners with various team members to coordinate customer orders and projects.
- Ensures that the inventory levels are properly maintained by continually tracking and monitoring the inventory in line with in house SOPs.
- Monitors project performance on a daily basis and in line with in house SOPs, providing updates to Management and the Board as required.
- Monitors R&M of equipment to ensure optimum utilisation and cost management – tracking usage per cbm3 poured so that ROI in parts replacement can be monitored.
- Organises and monitors physical inventory counts.
- Oversees inventory quality, ensuring accurate quality control and compliance.
- Reviews internal procedures, recommends process improvements and ensures compliance to existing in house SOPs and standards.
- Supports in the coordination, order and delivery of materials to job sites as per contract needs, supporting the GM.
- Ensure site planning meetings are taking place with relevant team members so that challenges are worked upon and the team is up to date on requirements.
- Creates and implements a reporting format to track company resource usage providing updates to the GM and Board as required.
- Support the GM identifying project risks and proposing solutions.
- Partners with all relevant team members on all safety concerns/work related injuries, working closely with the Internal Audit team to ensure any non-compliance matters are worked on and improved.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or any other similar and relevant subject matter.
- Previous experience in a similar role at Management level.
- Experience leading projects within the Concrete/Construction industry and effectively managing multiple tasks.
- Excellent communication skills including excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
- Qualitative abilities including strong analytical skills, technical proficiency and effective problem-solving skills.
- Proficient using Microsoft Office applications; good Excel skills required.
- Qualitative abilities including strong numerical analytical skills.
- Possesses strong leadership skills, effectively manages a diverse team and achieves results
- Able to work as an organised team player in a results-driven, fast-paced environment.
Communication: This position involves extensive daily interaction with colleagues, management and clients. The Operations Manager must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of management both internally and externally.
Mental Effort: This position requires the ability to think strategically and analytically. In this role you will need to understand the broader picture and the impact of your accountabilities as they relate to the entire company. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, under tight deadlines and pressure and the ability to be organised and manage time to meet deadlines.
