About US:
National Union of Women with Disabilities of Uganda (NUWODU) is an indigenous women –led Disabled Peoples Organization. It is an umbrella Organization that was formed in 1999 with the overall purpose of bringing together all categories of girls and women with disabilities including the physically, sensory, and mentally impaired women.
Job Summary: The Communications Officer will support the internal and external communications of the organization.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead on content creation for social media channels, newsletters, and print media.
- Lead on managing NUWODU’s social media channels in line with her communication strategy.
- Regularly update and manage NUWODU’s website.
- Create and curate engaging content relevant to the gender and disability rights movements.
- Monitoring and reporting on social media analytics and supporting digital campaigns where necessary
- Provide communications support for both online and in person fundraising events.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Postgraduate diploma in Communications, journalism, or related, relevant subject.
- Five years of work experience and at least three years of demonstrated experience in Communications for disability development.
- Significant experience of developing accessible and engaging content for all social media platforms.
- Significant experience of managing social media platforms, and improving reach and engagement metrics
- Experience of writing and editing blogs, newsletters, and newspaper
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Strong understanding of the importance of ethical communications, consent and the safe storage and usage of images.
- Ability to prioritize, implement, and deliver high-quality work within tight timelines and with minimal supervision.
- Affinity in working with persons with disabilities especially women with disabilities.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work and build relationships with team members and partners from diverse backgrounds.
