The Uganda Electricity Distribution Company Limited (UEDCL) is a limited liability company incorporated in Uganda under the Companies Act. UEDCL owns the 33KV and below voltage electricity distribution network and all the operational assets associated with the business currently leased to Umeme Ltd. The company monitors Umeme Ltd’s investment and distribution of power in Nine Service Territories covering over 74 Political Districts; it operates the Pole Treatment Plant at Lugogo, and also executes some Rural Electrification Schemes on behalf of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.
Job Summary: The ICT Assistant provides technical support, troubleshooting, and maintenance services to ensure the smooth operation of the organization’s information and communication technology systems. They assist in the implementation of IT policies, support end-users with hardware, software, networking, and web application issues, and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of IT operations.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to end-users regarding hardware, software, networking, and web application-related issues.
- Assist in the installation, configuration, and maintenance of computer systems, software applications, peripheral devices, and web servers.
- Monitor and respond to user inquiries through the help desk ticketing system or in-person, ensuring timely resolution and excellent customer service.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as system updates, virus scanning, data backups, and web application security checks to ensure optimal performance and data integrity.
- Collaborate with the IT team to evaluate and recommend hardware, software, and web development frameworks based on organizational needs and industry best practices.
- Assist in the development, testing, and deployment of web applications, including front-end and back-end programming tasks.
- Conduct user training sessions to enhance computer literacy and promote efficient usage of web applications and IT resources.
- Maintain inventory of IT equipment, including tracking hardware and software licenses, and assist with procurement processes when necessary.
- Stay updated with emerging technologies and trends in the IT and web application development field, and proactively recommend improvements to enhance the organization’s IT infrastructure.
- Assist in maintaining and updating the organization’s website and other digital platforms, including web application development, content updates, and troubleshooting.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least three years of related work experience
- Strong technical knowledge of computer hardware, software, networking, operating systems, and web application development.
- Proficient in programming languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and at least one back-end language (e.g., Python, PHP, Java, Ruby).
- Experience with web development frameworks (e.g., Angular, React, Django, Ruby on Rails) and database management systems (e.g., MSSQL, MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB).
- Familiarity with help desk ticketing systems, remote support tools, and version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information to non-technical users.
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
- Knowledge of web security principles and best practices.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CompTIA A+, Microsoft Certified Professional, web development certifications) are desirable.
