Cycling out of Poverty supports students, health volunteers, farmers and small entrepreneurs with bicycles to improve access to basic needs and services as education, health care, work and income. We believe that a bicycle makes a difference in this world and is a huge contributor to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Our mission is to improve livelihood of African families by making bicycles and other mobility aids (such as wheelchairs, bicycle ambulances and cargo bikes) accessible and available for everyone in Africa.

 

Job Summary:  For our office in Jinja, we are currently looking to recruit a passionate, charismatic, and creative PR and communications officer. The PR and communications officer is responsible for building and maintaining the positive image of CooP-Uganda, by a using a wide range of communication means, to shape and influence public impression and raise awareness.

 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with colleagues to capture key activities and stories from the field;
  • In charge of developing PR campaigns and media relations strategies;
  • Documenting work in photos, videos and written stories;
  • Editing promotional material and publications (brochures, videos, social media posts etc.);
  • Preparing and distributing press releases;
  • Organizing PR events;
  • Seeking opportunities for partnerships, sponsorships and advertising.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant must hold a Diploma in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or a related field
  • A passion for cycling and conservation; must be able to ride a bicycle
  • Proven experience as a Public Relations Officer or similar PR role
  • Experience managing media relations (online, broadcast and print)
  • Background in researching, writing and editing publications
  • Proficient in MS Office and social media
  • Familiar with video/photo editing
  • Strong communication ability (oral and written)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Creativity and problem-solving aptitude
