Job Summary: The Project Assistant will implement Psychosocial Support (PSS) activities for children and youth in Nakivale refugee settlement and neighbouring host community areas in South Western Uganda.
The position involves implementation of the PSS sessions for children in collaboration with a volunteer facilitators, ensuring the activities are implemented in compliance with War Child policies and standards; monitoring of activities and reporting on activities implemented and concerns identified.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Plan, organize, conduct and document PSS sessions for children and youth according to the War Child Holland methodology and standards.
- Identification of beneficiaries in close collaboration with the TeamUp facilitators, project officers and Team Leader.
- Support facilitators to plan and conduct timely and quality TeamUp sessions for children in communities.
- Support facilitators to conduct home visits to support children as required.
- Active involvement in weekly planning and review meetings.
- Ensures active participation in monthly implementation plans of project activities.
- Ensures the sessions are conducted in line with the WCH methodology.
- Prepares weekly planning of PSS Sessions together with the facilitators.
Support and coach/mentor project facilitators
- Identify gaps among facilitators and make their improvement plans
- Mentor facilitators regularly to achieve quality results.
- Conduct TeamUp observation and document strengths and areas of improvement
Report on activities implemented and concerns identified
- Collecting of information and data for documentation and reporting
- Timely project activity reporting and recording lessons learnt using the WCH tools and forms.
- Submits regular and timely reports to the TL on progress towards outputs as well as challenges and successes.
- Documents beneficiary stories of change and takes good quality photos of activities with beneficiary consent.
- Responsible and accountable for assigned project asset during project life span.
Ensure child safeguarding and incident reporting
- Ensures that child safeguarding and protection procedures are adhered to.
- Ensures child safeguarding and protection concerns are immediately reported to the Team Leader.
Attend stakeholder meetings and represent WCH
- Liaises regularly with (government) institutions and other partners in the area of operation.
- Attend meetings and make necessary presentations, with guidance from supervisor
Others:
- Any other duties as assigned by the Team Leader/Sr.Project Officer in fulfillment of the tasks.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Diploma in Community Development, Social Work or any other relevant related field.
- At least three years of field work experience, preferably with an (I)NGO in the area of psychosocial support, child development
- Ability to write and speak English is a must
- Strong understanding of PSS, child protection, youth and life skills programmes.
- Good understanding of development themes such as child rights, protection gender, livelihoods and SRH.
- Good understanding of dynamics in context, politics and culture of the West Nile region and its refugee settlements.
- Willing to live in remote areas
- Know how to ride a motorbike and in possession of a valid riding licence is a MUST
- Knowledge of local refugee language (Congolese Kiswahili, Kinyabwisha) is desirable.
