Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.
Job Summary: The Project Manager will be in-charge of the daily operations of the program, serve as the secretary of the Uganda steering committee that will include all the investigators and supervise the recruited project team. The role will include coordinating partners within the CAMO-network and ensuring the project is planned and delivered as planned. S/he formulates workplans to schedule program work, oversee daily operations, coordinate the activities of the program and set priorities for managing the same.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Work in close collaboration with the CAMO-net Principal Investigators, Project Director, steering committees provide operational level planning, design and implementation of the proposed project activities.
- In-charge of the scientific and daily operations of the CAMO-Net project and ensure all the different research projects/teams are delivered as planned.
- Support the coordination of the capacity building, knowledge management and documentation of the CAMO-net activities in collaborations with all network members.
- Serve as the secretary to the different research teams that comprises of the investigators, health technology, data management and statistics.
- Support the research teams and investigators with development, review and deployment of the developed research protocols including regulatory and monitoring oversight.
- Manage the e-collaborative platforms for remote working and ensure efficiency with information sharing.
- Write project reports, and be part of manuscripts developments and policy briefs for dissemination.
- To develop a communication plan to ensure prompt escalation of challenges and or bottle-necks and develop mutually agreeable solutions.
- Liaise with procurement Manager to ensure timely requisition of supplies for the project.
- Prepare weekly and monthly reports as per the program guidelines.
- Supervises staff and ensure that they achieve the aims and objectives of the Project.
- Participates in development and control of budgets in accordance with financial guidelines.
- Establish tracking system for scientific outputs (abstracts, manuscripts and other grey literature) arising from the project.
- Engage with the health technology team and ensure smooth integration of e-health platforms into the project objectives.
- Any other roles as assigned by the supervisor from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master’s degree in health-related course preferably in (Medicine, Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Nursing) and another related field is required
- Degree in health-related course preferably in (Medicine, Laboratory Sciences, Public Health, Nursing) and another related field is required.
- Diploma or advanced certificate in project planning management in the health sector
- GCP and HSP experience
- At least eight years of experience in research management and coordination including operationalization of a research protocol.
- Five years’ (8) experience in middle management and project/research management includes multi-country grants.
- Experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, etc) and advance knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems.
- Proven ability to coordinate complex projects with diverse range of partners.
- Ability to work with partners and other leadership to achieve program objectives.
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
- Should be a highly motivated person and should be able to work under a high workload and pressure.
- Competent in the use of standard office software and collaborative virtual platforms like MS Teams.
- Ability to work in a team but also work independently.
- Flexibility to work long hours, which may occasionally extend beyond normal working hours in order to complete critical tasks.
- Knowledge management and utilization experience related to Wellcome Trust funded projects for at least 2 years will be an added advantage.
