Job Summary: The Chief Accountant will have the responsibility for the operational functions of the Finance department including but limited to revenue recognition, fixed assets and inventory management, collections, procurement and management reporting.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
GL Management and Financial Reporting
- GL reviews and analysis
- Ensure timely closure of the Trial Balance
- Preparation and review of reconciliations – customer, stock, PPE etc
- Management of company inventory including physical counts, stock issue approval and review of stock reconciliations
Management of Fixed Assets
- Internal Controls and Operational Risk Management
- Ensure the implementation and compliance to financial policies and procedures
- Maintain and enforce adherence to accounting policies, financial regulations and procedures and internal controls
- Implementation and standardization of controls, systems policies & procedures
- Ensure compliance with the laws and regulations of the country with respect to Uganda Communications Commission License fees, Customs & Import duty, Income and Corporate Tax, filing of corporate returns and accurate record keeping
KPIs, Variance Analysis and Debt Management
- Prepare monthly product-wise profitability reports and performance KPI deck
- Debt management, monitor debtors aging and ensure debtors days and inactive debt is reduced
Capex & Opex Expenditure Management
- Ensure that capital expenditure is in line with approvals and budgets. Review operating expenditure for cost optimization, engage line managers and identify areas to manage costs efficiently
- Ensure the purchases and disposal of Property, Plant and Equipment have been correctly accounted for
- Reviews Capex and Opex productivity. Support with the preparation of Business Cases

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Relevant Degree in Accountancy, Finance / professional accounting qualification (CPA/ACCA) and at least four years’ experience mandatory
- Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and International Accounting Standards (IAS)
