Since 2013, the organization has been worked in the refugee settlements of Northern and Western Uganda providing emergency response as well as long-term development interventions.
Job Summary: The Driver is responsible for driving staff or other assigned persons or cargo to defined destinations in a professional, efficient, safe and timely manner. Maintaining assigned vehicles in excellent hygienic and mechanical conditions, ensuring proper documentation pertaining to the vehicle
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Transporting safely persons or goods
- Transport safely Action Against Hunger employees or freight according to the planning or according to the directives of the Capital logistician and /or Base Logistician where support is being given.
- Be in possession of all necessary individual documentation (driving license, passport, and order of mission) and vehicle documentation.
- Check the validity of the documentation.
- Report any accident immediately to the nearest police station for the purpose of insurance claims, and to the logistics department.
- Respect the Ugandan traffic regulations and rules.
- Adjust the speed to the road and risk conditions, in particular the speed mustn’t exceed 40 km/h in villages or populated areas.
- Respect Action Against Hunger Standard Operating Procedures for vehicles.
- Respect the manufacturer technical conditions of use for the vehicle
- Radio must be permanently “on” and regular contact must be made with the Radio Operator.
- Stop the car before answering to the radio and/or mobile phone or reduce speed to 30 km/hour when security conditions do not permit stoppage.
Maintenance and check list for field trips
- Perform the daily vehicle pre departure checklist mentioned in the logbook or in the driver briefing
- Clean the vehicle inside and outside when necessary and as per Action Against Hunger guidelines.
- Conscientiously reports information on the logbook and fuel logbook
- Check that the items mentioned in the logbook are in the vehicle when leaving.
- When a field departure is forecasted, the driver has to inspect and prepare the vehicle the day before leaving and be ready for the scheduled departure time.
- The driver has to prepare additional materials according to the mission needs (additional fuel tank, stickers, flag, tools, medical and food kits, etc.)
- When not driving, the driver mechanic must fulfill the duties and tasks as per objectives 3, 4, 5 and 6:
Tyres
- Checks for correct tyre pressure
- Rotates tyres every 10,000 Km or after maximum 9 months depending on the status.
- Ensures that wheel alignment and wheel balancing is checked regularly (at each tyre change).
- 4) Repairs
- Performs general repairs (transmission, clutches, suspension ;…) on ACF vehicles, motorcycles.
- Travels to the field with the appropriate tool kit for regular maintenances and in case of breakdowns /carries out basic repairs that enables getting the vehicle back to acceptable working condition.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a qualification in Motor vehicle Mechanics & Driving and training in Defensive Driving.
- At least three years of experience
- A valid driving permit
- Language skills: English (and relevant local language) fluent
- Ability to work and contribute positively in a team.
- Commitment to Action Against Hunger’s work and values.
- Willingness to adhere to Action Against Hunger’s policies on safeguarding.
