About US:
Uganda Electricity Generation Company Limited (UEGCL) is a Public Limited Liability Company incorporated in March 2001 under the companies Act (Cap 110), the Laws of Uganda and in conformity with the Electricity Act, 199 UEGCL started operation on 1st April 2001 and is wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Uganda, with the head office located in Kampala. The mandate of UEGCL is to establish, acquire, maintain and operate electricity generation facilities as well as promote Research and Development in the Electricity generation sector while running the company on sound business principals.
Job Summary: The ICT Officer- Network Infrastructure will work closely with the Senior ICT officer – Security and Infrastructure in taking charge of the responsibility for designing, supporting and maintaining the ICT networks (both LAN and WAN) at UEGCL. The role will also be responsible for installation and monitoring of UEGCL’s ICT network and associated hardware as well as ensuring that all UEGCL’s network related subscriptions and licenses with vendors are tracked and kept up to date. The role will further be expected to help drive ICT cost efficiencies through implementation of modern and emerging network technologies including software defined networks amongst other emergent technological advancements
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct systematic monitoring and scanning of the enterprise external environment to identify emerging technologies that have the potential to create business value;
- Assess availability, performance and capacity of services and resources to ensure justifiable cost capacity and performance are available to support business needs and to deliver against agreed service level agreements;
- Work closely with the ICT leadership to determine future network requirements and produce network designs to meet the network availability, performance and security of UEGCL;
- Carry out operational procedures and tasks reliably and consistently to reduce the risk of un planned outages;
- Perform network monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, and escalate problems as necessary to maintain network performance to meets user demands;
- Conduct control, evaluation and documentation of practices used to secure UEGCL’s network;
- Design and implement infrastructure solutions that adhere to current IT architecture and standards;
- Ensure that installations are completed within time, cost and quality requirements so as to minimize operational and project risk;
- Ensure that the testing and handover of implemented solutions are conducted as per organisational standards hence reducing the risk and adverse impact of change;
- Quickly respond to audit reports and implement agreed recommendations within specified time frames;
- Develop risk matrix and put in place risk mitigation measures in the network and hardware services at UEGCL;
- Participate in planning, budgeting and reporting in line with departmental guidelines and targets.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by the ICT leadership team

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science or associated discipline from a recognized university.
- IT Certifications: CCNA, CCNP, Comptia N+ will be an added advantage
- Three years of experience in installation and maintenance of network services in a large organisation with remote offices.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, particularly in staff/management relations,oral and written communication skills;
- Ability to work and produce accurate results in an environment with multiple and challenging tasks;
- Excellent analytical and problem solving techniques;
- Excellent customer service;
- High level of Integrity
