Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI) is an independently governed institute within the College of Health Sciences at Makerere University and has the mission “To strengthen health systems in Africa, with a strong emphasis on infectious diseases, through research and capacity development.” IDI has operations across Uganda as well as in a number of other African countries and has a staffing of over 1,000 managing multiple projects in research, clinical services, public health and training.
About USAID Project:
IDI received a five-year transition award entitled USAID Local Partner Health Services-TB Activity. The purpose of the Award is to increase TB case detection and treatment success in Uganda to 90% of all cases and thus contribute to substantial reduction of Uganda’s TB burden by 2026. IDI works through technical assistance to the National TB Program in the three districts of Kampala, Mukono and Wakiso and Regional Referral Hospitals to increase availability, accessibility and utilization of integrated TB/HIV and MDR-TB services.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Receive Complete and approved requisitions from buying units.
- Preparing and issuing Request for quotations to vendors
- Receiving quotations and responses to RFPs following the institute’s policies and procedures
- Prepare Purchase orders for recommended suppliers/providers.
- In liaison with the finance team, follow up vendor invoices to ensure timely payment.
- Maintain a safe and systematic storage of procurement documents and other relevant items
- Maintain and keep track of the contracts register and flag those expiring to trigger the renewal or contracting process.
- Carry out other assignments as may be allocated by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or any related field from a recognized institution.
- Enrollment for the Professional qualification in a relevant supply chain management course with significant progress in the course e.g. CIPS shall be an added advantage.
- A minimum of three years of experience in procurement and supply chain management in a busy reputable organisation.
- Should have good interpersonal skills
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a busy environment
- Familiarity with MS Office and Navision ERP.
