About US:
The Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU), Uganda’s apex body for the private sector is collaborating with the Mastercard Foundation to co-implement the Young Africa Works in Uganda – Enhancing Lead Firm Structure for Youth Employment Program. The Intervention’s ultimate goal is to create dignified and fulfilling work for young women and men and contribute to the effort to lifting Ugandans out of poverty. The intervention focuses on creating, maintaining and sustaining growth in job markets through strengthening the capacity of actors to efficiently produce and sell their goods and services in expanded markets, developing new diversified financing mechanisms as well as growing the capacity of business leaders and their support service providers to manage and expand their enterprises. This transformative intervention will also transition Micro Enterprises into Small Enterprises.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Strategy Operationalization: Support in the operationalization of the Foundation’s safeguarding policy and processes to be utilized by PSFU and all sub-partners, Lead Firms, stakeholders, and vendors in executing their responsibilities.
- Risk Assessment: Work with the Mastercard Foundation’s Safeguarding Lead to conduct a safeguarding capacity assessment of all Lead Firms across the Young Africa Works program and develop an LFS-wide approach to address identified gaps.
- Awareness and Capacity Building: Conduct awareness and capacity-building sessions to educate all stakeholders within the LFS on their roles in managing safeguarding risks and or reporting incidents. The job holder will also ensure that participants in the program and other key stakeholders are aware of where to report any incidents which may arise.
In partnership with:
- Strengthen Partnership Development Process: by ensuring safeguarding considerations in the Due Diligence process and proposal reviews from Lead Firms that will generate a detailed analysis of the safeguarding risks with appropriate remedial actions.
- Implementing safeguarding reporting systems: the role holder will Act as a focal point to receive information about safeguarding concerns. They will be expected to establish systems for reporting issues, behaviour or information related to the welfare of the young people and other vulnerable individuals involved in the program. The job holder will be required to URGENTLY report all safeguarding issues in accordance with the Foundation policies
- Records: Create and maintain a safeguarding incident register. Ensure all information is recorded on the safeguarding incident form and referred to the Mastercard Foundation, and maintain up-to-date, accurate records of the safeguarding information.
- In consultation with the Mastercard Foundation and relevant stakeholders, make a formal referral to a statutory agency (such as the police) or another organization, as appropriate.
Key Communications Responsibilities include:
- Strategy Implementation: Support the implementation of the integrated communications strategy and work plan, aligned to the overall project’s action plan as well as the PSFU and the Mastercard Foundation’s communication and branding guidelines.
- Project documentation: support with the production and preparation of project documentation material, including but not limited to brochures, leaflets, adverts, case studies, videos, photographs, press releases, articles, and newsletters.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of our communications activities.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication, Social Sciences, and any other related social and behavioural sciences disciplines
- At least two (2) years of experience working in Project Communications or Media.
- Evidence of a high level of safeguarding training and practical experience
- Recognized Safeguarding qualification or Counselling qualification is an added advantage.
- Understanding of diversity, equal opportunities, and inclusion principles
- Experience working in the field of Child Protection, a young people and with vulnerable communities all with relevant qualifications.
- Awareness and appropriate knowledge of relevant legislation related to child/youth protection
- Significant organizational and administrative skills, supported by proficiency with ICT
- Excellent verbal communication skills, including telephone etiquette, diplomacy, and confidentiality
- Excellent interpersonal skills and solution-focused approach to professional relationships.
- Ability to consult and negotiate with external agencies to reach the best outcomes for children and young people with discretion
- Good proofreading and writing skills
- Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines
- The ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders
- Strong listening skills and the ability to deal with sensitive situations with integrity
- Ability to work as part of a team and demonstrate initiative
- A commitment to working in a busy private sector work environment
- Flexible, motivated, and committed to a high standard of working, with a willingness to take on additional duties
- Adaptability to changing circumstances and new ideas, resilient and determined to achieve goals
