Job Summary:  Watoto is seeking to recruit a Child Development Officer to support early childhood development needs and mentor mothers to train children in moral conduct.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To participate in Homes Management Budget and work plan preparations.
  • To assess and monitor child development progress and supervise related activities.
  • To conduct both homes and schools’ visits and guide mothers and teachers on child development concerns reported or assessed.
  • To guide and advise the home management team on innovative and best practises to promote development of Children.
  • To advise and guide on referrals on complex cases for further professional interventions (both internal and external) i.e., child counsellors, therapists, psychologists and follow up all cases referred.
  • To support the child support assistant for special needs children.
  • To develop, update, maintain a comprehensive register of potentially challenged children.
  • To support mothers in the onboarding process of children and help children settle in the homes.
  • To conduct orientation to new children in the homes in accordance with the Discipline Policy of Watoto.
  • To formulate and submit accurate quarterly, monthly and annual reports to the Home manager on a timely basis.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The applicant for the role should hold at least a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in community Development related studies such as Social works, Development studies, Education or Social Sciences, etc
  • At least four years of relevant work experience in implementing social programmes and community development.
  • Experience working with vulnerable children, families, and communities.
  • Posses’ knowledge of relevant childcare legislation and regulations of Uganda.
  • Good Knowledge and understanding of children’s rights and approaches in the development programmes.
  • Demonstrated experience in capacity building and mentoring of staff.
  • Good computer skills i.e., Microsoft applications
  • Must be a committed Christian and willing to live up to the organisation values.
  • Excellent command of the English language both in written and oral constructs
