Job Summary: The Entrepreneurship and Resilience Officer (s) will support vulnerable youth and especially young women to develop sustainable micro- or small businesses that enable them to generate income and enhance their economic resilience and food security as well as support the integration of quality Entrepreneurial Skills Development in Technical and Vocational Education Training and Business Development Service delivery.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- You plan and coordinate a mapping study to identify local business development/self-employment opportunities in the targeted sectors.
- You assess the business support needs of newly established micro- and small businesses and map and analyze the potential for upscaling existing successful business development services.
- You ensure strategies to enhance beneficiaries’ access to affordable finance and capital; access to new funding opportunities provided by institutional actors such as those under the Parish Development Model, enhanced access to land especially for farming and other economic activities; access to technical support towards Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) formation and strengthening of existing community savings or credit initiatives, start-up toolkits, etc.);
- Through co-creation workshops with key stakeholders, you develop guidelines and indicators for entrepreneurial learning in the Ugandan Technical and Vocational Education and Training system and Business Development Services delivery;
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Master of Science in Entrepreneurship and Business-related studies;
- A Bachelor of Entrepreneurship and small business management or a related field.
- At least five years of experience in entrepreneurship/self-employment support (e.g., incubation support, entrepreneurial soft skills trainings, technical assistance to entrepreneurs and micro or small businesses, etc.);
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in entrepreneurship promotion and small businesses management amongst vulnerable youth and women;
- Experience with or good understanding of the actors and economic opportunities in the green economy and agribusiness;
- Proven experience with economic empowerment of vulnerable youth and women
- You have broad and in-depth understanding of the various aspects of international cooperation (context, challenges, strengths, partners, functioning, etc.);
- Knowledge and expertise in entrepreneurship promotion and agribusiness activities; • Good knowledge of entrepreneurship promotion approaches and local business development;
- Excellent understanding of the local economy and the local economic opportunities;
- Basic knowledge of Start-Your-Business and Manage-Your-Business approaches;
- Expertise in developing and implementing mechanisms and interventions for enhanced youth livelihoods;
- Excellent interpersonal skills allowing to interact and work with vulnerable youth and women, as well as private sector actors and other (high-level) stakeholders;
- Creative thinking and being pro-active i.e. taking initiatives and responsibility at the same time;
- Good working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software, phone, email) and computer applications (e.g. MS Office);
- Ability to work on own initiative as well as a member of a team;
- Ability to deal with people with tact and diplomacy;
- Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to demonstrate gender sensitive and non-discriminatory behaviour and attitudes.
- Fluent in English, with excellent reporting skills.
