About US:

National Union of Women with Disabilities of Uganda (NUWODU) is an indigenous women –led Disabled Peoples Organization. It is an umbrella Organization that was formed in 1999 with the overall purpose of bringing together all categories of girls and women with disabilities including the physically, sensory, and mentally impaired women.

 

About CHANCE2 PROJECT:

NUWODU is implementing a 5-year project (2022-2026) of Child-Centered Holistic Approach to a Nurturing Care Enabling Environment (CHANCE2 PROJECT) in Terego district, West Nile region.

 

Job Summary:  The program officer will be responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of the project activities including planning, budgeting, implementation processes, partnership management and results.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build, strengthen and manage collaborations with governments, key partners, institutions, and stakeholders
  • Ensure quality interventions
  • Oversee the initiation and completion of work plans and budgets
  • Conduct capacity building and training on early childhood development, nurturing care, children’s rights, and disability
  • Advocate for the inclusion of children with disabilities in schools and health services
  • Compile and submit quality activity reports, progress reports and all necessary reports in a timely and effective manner.
  • Keenly monitor and evaluate the progress of the project, document results, best practices and lessons learnt from the project to inform further intervention.
  • Job holder will have to adhere to NUWODU’s policies and donor guidelines effectively and efficiently
  • Work closely and strengthen the relationship of NUWODU with district leadership and other stakeholders in the region to deliver broader goal of the project
  • Participate in district activities to represent the organization
  • Participate in mobilization of resources for the organization
  • Develop training manuals and communications materials
  • Supervise and support the Program Assistants to deliver quality interventions

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The Program officer must possess a bachelor’s degree in the following fields; Development Studies, Social Work and Administration, Social Sciences, Adult and Community Psychology, Gender and Community Development, Disability studies and other related Humanities from reputable institutions.
  • Training in public health will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of four years of working experience in project management and implementation, report writing, monitoring and evaluation and resource mobilization.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of Child Care and Development, especially maternal and neonatal health and nutrition is an added advantage.
  • Previous experience of working with communities in the field of health.
  • Held a supervisory position of staff under his/her department
  • Knowledgeable in early childhood development, rights of children, gender, and disability
  • Experience in working with women and persons with disabilities
  • Able to deliver results effectively with minimum supervision, ability and willing to learn.
  • Proven skills in Monitoring and Evaluation and can document results, lessons, and best practices out of interventions.
  • Must have good communication skills
  • Must have good track record in financial management, accountability, and reporting
  • Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage
