Job Title: Legal Officer Litigation (No Experience Jobs)

About US:
The Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda (IRA) was established under section 14 of the Insurance Statute 1996 now The Insurance Act, (Chap213) Laws of Uganda, 2000 (Insurance Act) which came into effect on 4th April 1996 and commenced operations in April 1997. The establishment of the Insurance Regulatory Authority of Uganda was a consequence of Government’s adoption of the liberalization and privatization policies which ended its role of directly engaging in the provision of goods and services and taking on the role of supervisor or regulator.
Job Summary: The Legal Officer Litigation will provide ensure legal services provision in accordance with Authority’s policies, procedures and the law.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist internal and external counsel by carrying out legal research and drafting of court documents including pleadings, submissions etc.
- Assisting in the effective representation and follow-up of cases involving the Authority.
- Assist in the de registration and winding up of dormant and non-compliant insurance entities.
- Assist in securing the approval of Chambers and acquisition of Practicing Certificates for members.
- Assist in assessing the legal implications of the Authority’s dealings with licensees and other operators who carry on business that falls within the purview of the Insurance Act and other pertinent laws and regulations.
- Assist in the interpretation of and enforcement of the Insurance Act and other pertinent laws and regulations, as the need may arise.
- Assist in the monitoring of enactments of laws and regulations and assessing their impact on the operations of the Authority.
- Assist in the provision of legal advisory services to the Authority.
- Carry out any other duties as may be assigned from time to time.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Bachelor’s of Laws degree (Honors)
- Diploma in Legal Practice
- Personal Presentation
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory provisions.
- Analytical skills.
- Communication skills
