We work alongside people with disabilities and individuals experiencing extreme hardship, taking action and bearing witness to respond to their essential needs, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.

 

HI in Uganda is currently implementing development and humanitarian interventions in six sectors/thematic areas: Livelihood, Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS), Physical and Functional Rehabilitation, Inclusive Education, Inclusive Health, and Inclusive Humanitarian Action (IHA) to improve access and quality of services to the most vulnerable people including persons with disabilities promoting a more inclusive and harmonious society.

 

Job Summary: To provide practical and mobility support to assist the Project Manager with visual impairment in the day to day operations.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide sighted support during training events / workshops including but not limited:

  • Arranging appropriate stationary for the training / workshop’s events.
  • Managing participants’ registration and other supports.
  • Coordinating with the hotel/venue to ensure timely provision of refreshments
  • Attending to visibility materials and IEC as of Humanity & Inclusion visibility for example, ensuring proper display of visibility materials
  • Taking notes of workshop proceedings
  • Ensuring IT materials are properly set-up according to training / workshop needs

Support during official travels:

  • Provide mobility and other sighted guide support to the officer on official journeys and / or official meetings.
  • Ensure safe proceedings in unknown areas.
  • Facilitate contacts and meetings when relevant at the demand of the officer
  • Maintain an update diary for the officer and regularly update him on his appointments;
  • Support with reading, scanning and other forms of transcriptions of print materials to make them accessible for the officer.
  • Support with taking notes during meetings and field activities for the Technical Project Manager to compile appropriate reports.
  • Facilitate linkages with other departments when relevant
  • Ensure materials and especially IT materials are always set-up appropriately for use by the person supported
  • Facilitate the use of IT materials especially emails / online meetings / documents archiving
  • Other tasks relevant to support the supported officer to carry out his duties according to his job description and objectives

Emergency preparedness and response

  • Contributes to the program’s emergency preparedness actions and, in an emergency, adapts his or her working methods to contribute to an effective humanitarian approach by HI.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of a diploma in any field from a recognized academic institution.
  • Training in rehabilitation, mobility and orientation, sign language is an added advantage.
  • At least two years working experience in an NGO setting, preferably one with programs for persons with disabilities.
  • Experience in a similar role is a must
