About US:

Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) is a non-profit biomedical research Organization, whose mission is to mitigate disease threats through quality research, healthcare and disease surveillance. MUWRP was established in 2002 by a Memorandum of Agreement between The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) and Makerere University (Mak) to undertake medical research to test HIV vaccines. Over the years, MUWRP’s portfolio has progressively expanded to include vaccine research for Ebola and Marburg viruses, surveillance of influenza and influenza- like viruses and other emerging infections in humans and animals; also epidemiological, basic and implementation research in HIV treatment, care and prevention programs in the Districts of Kayunga, Mukono, Buvuma and Buikwe.

 

Job Summary: The candidate will serve as a Medical Officer for the Makerere University Walter Reed Project (MUWRP) Clinical trial at the Mukono General Hospital study site.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the study coordinator to implement a COVID-19 vaccine trial and all related procedures as approved by IRB.
  • Participate in screening, conducting medical assessments and enrolling participants into the trial.
  • Take medial history, conduct physical examination, diagnose and manage medical conditions and refer for further management where necessary
  • Compliance with study procedures and GCP/ICH guidelines.
  • Ensure participant safety and confidentiality.
  • Writing and implementing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the study site.
  • Documentation of procedures, processes and events as required by approved SOPs
  • Support the teams to ensure accurate and quality data.
  • Actively participate in generating and designing research protocols including public health evaluations.
  • Participate in writing manuscripts and publications
  • Assist Study coordinator in implementing the clinical trial.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery
  • At least two years of working experience
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience or with skill in conducting clinical trials
  • Demonstrated ability to generate and develop scientific research concepts
  • Good Clinical Practice (GCP) training.
  • Research Ethics Training
  • Knowledge of Regulatory Procedures.
  • Experience of living and working in a rural environment
  • Supervisory controls: The individual will serve under the immediate supervision of the Senior Medical Officer.
  • Physical Ability: Ability to professionally communicate in writing and verbally or other means deemed appropriate. The ability to frequently travel between MUWRP sites
