About CDC Project
Jhpiego is implementing the project ‘Support of Ebola Virus Disease Response” with funding from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Jhpiego is supporting the Ministry of Health response to the EVD outbreak in three areas of surveillance, data systems and logistics. This is achieved by supporting the Ministry of Health to build local capacity for EVD surveillance and data management, facilitating the processes necessary to achieve the goal of identifying EVD cases and preventing new infections.
Job Summary: The Project Officer will be responsible for the day-to-day implementation of the CDC GHS funded program activities in Kampala. S/he will work with KCCA (Rubaga and Nakawa Divisions) Ministry of Health to plan, implement, monitor and evaluate GHS Ebola grant surveillance activities. The Officer will be seconded to KCCA and work with their surveillance teams and Ministry of Health to produce quality daily updates and weekly reports including alert report, sitreps and updates to Jhpiego. This is a contract position for 6 months and is renewable based on availability of funding and scope of work.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Ensure implementation of the project activities in the KCCA divisions of Nakawa and Rubaga.
- Review surveillance data on a daily basis to identify trends and vulnerabilities linked to provision of services and population mobility, make recommendations for improvement, and ensure follow up action is instituted.
- Provide ongoing technical support to the Ministry of Health staff to improve the EVD surveillance systems.
- Review surveillance data outputs for quality, timeliness, completeness, and provide feedback and follow-up to ensure data quality.
- Support the relevant departments of the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders to implement project activities.
- Organize regular meetings with the Ministry of Health and other partners.
- Ensure planned activities are implemented and meet Jhpiego quality standards.
- Participate in monitoring and supportive supervision activities.
- Undertake other activities relevant to the project assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Degree in Medical field, Public Health, or Social Sciences Masters’ Degree in Public Health is an added advantage.
- At least three years’ related experience, at national level surveillance programs.
- Technical and programmatic expertise in public health programming for infectious diseases.
- Knowledge and experience of implementing infectious diseases surveillance activities.
- Good communication skills.
- Excellent writing, verbal and interpersonal communication skills in English.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- Ability and willingness to travel upcountry.
