About US:
Fairventures Worldwide (FVW) is a German based organization engaged in landscape restoration activities. Our Uganda program aims to find and implement solutions for large-scale restoration of deforested areas. FVW works with small scale farmers in Uganda to implement its reforestation programs.
FVW Programs are primarily field-based, with activities ranging from farmer and field staff training to nursery establishment, field staff supervision, seedling distribution and planting, monitoring and mapping farmer fields, as well as stakeholder coordination. FVW implements projects in the Western, Central and Eastern Uganda districts.
Job Summary: The Forestry Field Coordinator shall implement field activities related to the coordination, training, and monitoring of project agroforestry fields. The coordinator will support the analysis of farming systems and implement the capacity building of farmers in key areas such as tree growing and management in both agroforestry and woodlot systems, seedling management in nurseries among others. This position will report to the Head of Field Operations. Your technical, training, and collaborative skills will ensure that FVW delivers high-quality programming and continuously works towards improving the impact of our programs.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Farmer Training Facilitators (FTF) activities, resources, equipment, and information
- Breakdown the project content for Farmer Training Facilitators (FTFs) into implementable actions with set timeframes
- Liaise with FTFs to identify and define requirements, scope and objectives
- Assign tasks to internal teams and assist with schedule management
- Ensure that FTFs’ needs and views are managed towards the best solution as the project evolves
- Help prepare activity budgets and manage all necessary financial accounting documentation at the field level
- Analyze and report all potential project risks and opportunities
- Oversee field project procurement e.g. vehicle hire, transport for seedlings, casual labor etc
- Monitor project progress and handle/communicate any issues that arise
- Act as the point of contact and communicate project status to all participants and stakeholders
- Create and keep detailed project documentation and reporting
- Keep track of project plans, schedules, work hours, budgets, and expenditures
- Organizing, attending, and participating in stakeholder meetings

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry, Agroforestry, Agriculture, or a related field is required
- At least two years of work experience in technical positions in the field of Forestry or Agriculture, preferably for a donor funded, time-bound project
- Proven understanding of agroforestry approaches and good agroforestry practices
- Additional experience may substitute for some education
- Relevant technical experience in the use of GIS or other mapping software is a plus
- Experience in farmer training, coaching, and capacity building related to good agroforestry practices, and climate-smart adaptations
- Experience working with stakeholders at various levels and strengthening community partnerships
- Experience using MS Windows and MS Office packages (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- English and knowledge of Runyankore/Rukiga, Luganda, Runyoro/Rutoro, Japadhola and Lugisu/Lumasaba
- Critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills with the ability to make sound judgment
- Strong relationship management skills and the ability to work effectively with local stakeholders
- Representation abilities
- Ability to contribute to written reports
- Proactive, results-oriented, and service-oriented responsibilities
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 80% within Uganda. This is a field-based position based outside Kampala.
