The United States Embassy in Kampala, Uganda has enjoyed diplomatic relations with Uganda for over 30 years. Ambassador Natalie E. Brown currently heads the U.S Mission to Uganda. The Mission is composed of several offices and organizations all working under the auspices of the Embassy and at the direction of the Ambassador.

Job Summary: The Residential Security Technician (RSET) performs inspections, installations, preventative maintenance, and emergency repair of alarm systems, locks, charley bars, and other residential security equipment. Incumbent will also train the embassy community on the proper use of residential security equipment. Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles. Incumbent will Install, repair, and remove alarm systems and various lock systems in embassy residences by ensuring all residences conform with Diplomatic Security’s (DS) implementation of the Overseas Security Policy Board’s (OSPB) standards per the12 Foreign Affairs Handbook (FAH) FAH-6 H-130 and 12 FAH-6 H-410.
Incumbent performs inspections, installations, preventative maintenance, and emergency repair of alarm systems, locks, charley bars, and other residential security equipment. Incumbent will also train the embassy community on the proper use of residential security equipment. Incumbent serves as an incidental operator of official vehicles and meets all requirements outlined in 14 FAM 433.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

- The applicants for the United States US Embassy Residential Security Technician (RSET) job opportunity should have completed high school education (required. A trade school certificate in the areas of technical electronics, locksmith, and or welding. Required.
- Must have a good knowledge of where to procure goods and services in the country.
- Must possess good knowledge of technical operations and functions of alarm systems.
- Must have good knowledge and/or experience in installing, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and electronic systems.
- Must be proficient in the use of computer applications especially MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Internet, and database programs.
- Must perform duties with a high degree of professionalism and efficiency.
- Excellent record keeping skills.
- Must possess the necessary skills to prepare and conduct training classes in the operational function of the alarm systems, locks, and grill emergency releases.
- Must be able to understand basic electrical diagnostic equipment and perform fairly complex electrical installations.
- Must be able to lift and carry tools, equipment or parts, (maximum weight 25 kilos), climb ladders to reach equipment platforms and roofs of buildings to access control panels.
- Must have a valid, current class B driver’s license. Must have had a valid driver’s license for a minimum of five (5) years.
- Language: Level 3 – Good working knowledge; written & spoken
