Job Summary: The Water Supply Officer will be responsible for implementation of WASH in Schools Project activities. S/He will work closely with the school community and Project Coordinator to determine best practices and necessary adaptations. The Water Supply Officer will report to the Project Coordinator.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Primary duties & responsibilities:
- Identify the WASH needs in schools in consultation with the Project Coordinator, school community, and other relevant stakeholders.
- Design effective stakeholder participation, monitoring systems, and feedback mechanisms that enable beneficiaries to own and sustain the system.
- Prepare the design and Bills of Quantities (BOQs) for latrines and rainwater harvesting systems. Monitor construction/installation, functioning and utilization of water points, latrines, rainwater harvesting systems, handwashing stations, etc.
- Prepare service schedules and pumping and water distribution schedules and monitor implementation. Build the capacity of the WASH technicians to ensure smooth operation of water systems.
- Identify, develop, train, and supervise school-based water management committees, equip them with the necessary tools for maintenance, care and operation of the system.
- Complete/Submit regular (e.g. daily, weekly, monthly, etc.) activity reports, working with the Project Coordinator and others to monitor/maintain project progress to ensure goals are achieved on time, evaluate challenges as they arise, and utilize creative problem solving to identify cost effective solutions. Conduct all activities in the most cost-effective and efficient manner, in coordination with the project team, other departments and per Samaritan’s Purse, government and donor policies and best practices. Participate in morning devotions and maintain a strong Christian witness to colleagues, project stakeholders, project beneficiaries, and the general public. Any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Essential attitudes & abilities:
- Must agree with and uphold the mission and objectives of the organization.
- University degree in the field of Water Engineering, Water Supply & Sanitation, or WASH-related field.
- Minimum two (2) years’ relevant experience, preferably with expertise in the area of WASH in schools.
- Willingness and ability to travel to the field and work with community members
- Strong leadership, organizational and communication skills, with experience of supervising others. Proficient in Microsoft Office packages (Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
- Commitment to empathy, integrity, responsibility, transparency and efficiency.
- Must hold a valid Class A and B driver’s permit.
