Action Against Hunger-USA, an independent NGO, currently manages operations in 8 countries: Kenya, South Sudan, Cambodia, Tanzania, Uganda, Ethiopia, Haiti and Somalia. Action Against Hunger-USA has over $75 million in programs, and approximately 2000 staff based in in the various country offices, Head Quarter in New York City and Operational Centre in Nairobi. Additional growth is anticipated.
Job Summary: Develop and co-ordinate the organization’s overall communications strategy which supports Action Against Hunger mission, enables growth, and enhances presence and influence; and control the flow of information within and/or between the organization and the public.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the Advocacy Coordinator to develop and implement a Country Communications Strategy and Work Plan.
- Provide close and regular coordination with program teams and technical staff to identify opportunities to provide support or leverage ongoing activities.
- Liaise with Regional and Global Communications team to provide content for campaigns, fundraising, advocacy and public outreach.
- Maintain and grow social media and online presence, ensuring regular content sharing and alignment with global communication priorities and messaging.
- Monitor and report on social media activity, online media and identify opportunities for digital alliances.
- Liaise with Regional and Global Communications team to provide content for campaigns, fundraising, advocacy and public outreach.
- Build and maintain relationships with media outlets, influencers, technical service providers and peer organisations
- Develop a brand voice and maintain brand integrity and quality control across all platforms and ensure all staff understand and adhere to organizational visibility and branding guidelines.
- Lead and provide support to staff, to generate communications content for project reports, interest stories, presentations or events.
- Build capacity of staff to produce high quality communications materials, presentations, fact Sheets, policy briefs, documentation of case studies and success stories.
- Manage library of communications materials (photos and video banks, stories, reports.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

- Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or other related discipline is preferred. A Master’s/postgraduate qualification is an added advantage.
- Minimum 5 years professional experience in public relations, writing, editing and producing written communications for targeted audiences.
- Proven work experience heading Communications in a reputable organisation preferably in a humanitarian/development setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with communications technologies.
- Understand and familiar principles and software of copywriting, graphic design, layout and publishing.
- Familiarity with social media platforms and social media marketing.
- Knowledge of digital best practices, internet culture and language.
- Creative and able to communicate with different audiences.
