Job Summary: Under the direction of the WASH Team Leader at the Field Level and Community Development Manager at the country program level, the WASH Officer is responsible for implementing Water Mission Uganda programs in Health & Hygiene, Evangelism & Outreach, and Micro-enterprise & Sustainability within the Uganda Country Program following established standards and procedures. This position requires travel to remote locations within Uganda to support the implementation of the Community Development aspects at all levels. The WASH Officer is responsible for ensuring all work is completed to a high degree of excellence and according to all standards, values, and requirements of Water Mission Uganda. Because Water Mission Uganda seeks to share the news of the Living Water, all employees are expected to share the gospel through their words and actions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively participate with the highest degree of excellence in supporting the WASH-related activities undertaken by WMU in the refugee settlements within the assigned district and nearby districts’ refugee camps when the need arises.
- Take the lead in participating in coordination meetings and representing WMU in other fora within the refugee setting/camp.
- Support the formation, training, and follow-up of Safe Water Committees on existing and new safe water projects within the refugee camp.
- Mobilization of refugee communities in the assigned location to participate in WASH activities as the need arises.
- On a routine basis, notify the head Office- WASH team leader of matters requiring attention and action accordingly.
- Take a leading role to support the role out of fee contribution among the refugee community and activate WASH promotion by the Promoters.
- Participate and routinely document lessons learned and MSC-most significant case studies arising from the refugee communities.
- Develop and submit weekly and monthly timely reports on the program in the respective districts.
- Participate and contribute towards the development of tools for assessments and collection of baseline data for WASH-related activities.
- Endeavor to work harmoniously with the Tap operators to ensure that the settlement has running water in the stand taps at all the designated times.
- Ensure that communities are fully mobilized for safe water projects per Water Mission standards.
- Ensure that accurate and complete accounting and reports are prepared and submitted to the office in time as required.
- Abide by the policies/requirements of the WMU Code of Conduct which is a part of this contract.
- Support the mainstreaming of the gospel of Jesus Christ in the refugee WASH program.
- Conduct other duties assigned from time to time by the supervisor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.
- Alignment with Water Mission’s Statement of Faith and Core Values of Love, Excellence, and Integrity.
- The applicant must hold a University degree in Public health, Diploma in Public Health, Environmental Health Science, or equivalent professional qualification.
- Two years of experience within the field of WASH and others.
- Strong understanding of basic training in WASH programming, participatory training methods, community mobilizations, and networking.
- Effective and timely implementation of all interventions outlined under output and any other related and cross-cutting program activities related to WASH.
- Working experience and knowledge of the local duty station.
- Able to adapt to changing situations as required.
- Able to work well under pressure and in adverse conditions.
- Ability to organize personal workload and achieve on-time results.
- Strong work ethic.
- Commitment to the organization’s values and mission and ending the global water crisis.
- Legal authorization to work in Uganda without sponsorship.
