Job Title: Senior Legal Officer (Advisory)

About US:
The Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) is established as a Statutory Body under the Uganda Registration Services Bureau Act Cap. 210. The Bureau is a key player in Commercial, Civil and Intellectual Property Rights Registration that facilitate private sector development and vital statistics for national planning.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Render strategic and accurate legal advice to Management in all cases to mitigate legal, financial and reputational risks to the Bureau.
- Review laws, rules, regulations and policies applicable to the Bureau, which may be affected by new legislation, policy changes and developments in the administration of justice.
- Represent the Bureau in Courts of law and handle any other litigation related matters.
- Advise URSB on its roles, responsibilities and legal implication of trends and issues related to its operations.
- Review and or prepare contractual documents made with third parties and ensure that URSB interests are taken care of and the Bureau is not exposed to any risks.
- Provide strategic legal advice to URSB and its clients on compliance with all legal requirements pertaining to the Bureau’s operations and mandate.
- Organize Unit meetings, take and distribute minutes to members, follow up on agreed action points and keep proper record of the same.
- Attend meetings and stakeholder engagements as delegated by the Head Legal Advisory Services.
- Supervising, appraising, guiding and mentoring Unit staff.
- Prepare periodic performance reports and any other adhoc reports as may be requested by management.
- Perform any other duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Head Legal Advisory Services and management.
Key Outputs
- To provide legal advisory services to the Staff and Management of Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) and ensure quality advice and sound legal standing for the Bureau.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The applicant must hold a Bachelor of laws (Honors) from a recognized institution is a MUST.
- Post Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from a recognized institution is a MUST.
- At least four (4) years of relevant work experience executing litigation and legal advisory functions in a reputable public or private organization.
- Must be a member of relevant professional bodies.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the relevant laws combined with communication and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent computer literacy skills.
- Ability to work under minimum supervision.
