Tugende is tackling the credit gap for small businesses in Africa by enabling informal entrepreneurs to: 1) own income‑generating assets, 2) build a verifiable digital credit profile, and 3) earn future growth opportunities through the Tugende digital platform. This platform includes discounts, smartphones, e‑commerce opportunities, and on‑demand credit lines. Tugende has financed 52,000+ productive asset leases valued at over USD 35 million. The company has 750+ employees serving clients across 23 branches in Uganda and 10 in Kenya. Tugende is growing into new geographies and asset product lines including boat engines for fishermen and fridges for retail shops.
About the role:
Tugende’s ongoing rapid growth is supported by regular capital raising and ongoing engagement with current investors. The Corporate Finance team leads these efforts and additionally provides financial analysis & research for company and investor needs. Reporting to the Head of Department, the Investor Relations Manager will drive all investor facing activity, including building and progressing relationships with potential new investors, and managing relationships, reporting and opportunities with all current investors. Key functions for this role include:
- Pro-active sourcing of debt and equity capital from potential long-term investment partners, and management of a documented, disciplined pipeline of opportunities.
- Working with all relevant departments to produce and deliver regular financial and social impact reports for existing and potential investors.
- Presenting a consistent investor value proposition to Tugende’s investment community.
- Research and analysis of relevant investment trends and financial conditions positioning Tugende to succeed in a changing capital raising environment.
- Managing, monitoring and presenting a relevant summary of investor feedback regarding Tugende’s performance to the Senior Management Team.
The Tugende Investor Relations Manager will be required to perform the following key activities:
Sourcing
- Build and maintain a pipeline of debt (and equity when required) transactions to fund Tugende’s growth.
- Assist in preparing prospectuses for fundraising (capital and debt).
- Monitoring of markets and macro financial environment.
- Manage investor targeting and tracking systems.
- Coordinate between all parties to ensure adherence to timely fundraising processes.
Due Diligence support
- Assist in preparations for all the road shows and investor conferences both domestically and internationally.
- Coordinate onsite and offsite due diligence with investors, including information requests and logistics.
Investor Relations
- Represent Tugende to the investor community.
- Produce reports and tailored analysis for existing and future lenders, shareholders and board.
- Provide regular feedback to management and other stakeholders on news relevant to Tugende, their concerns, and investment criteria.
Team Development
- Work closely with the financial operations and accounting team to share knowledge and build skills across finance functions. Hire and manage direct reports as the role grows.

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Technical skills:
- Superior oral and written communication skills
- Compelling presentation ability, both in producing written outputs and delivering verbally
- Proficiency in all Microsoft Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint
Knowledge:
- Prior capital raising and investor reporting experience
Strong network in and understanding of some or all of the following:
- Venture and private equity backed startup environment
- Emerging markets and Africa, preferable East Africa in particular
- Fintech and alternative lending models,
- Impact investment, with focus on financial inclusion, digital inclusion and small business
- Advanced understanding of financial statements
Personal Attributes and Abilities:
- An excellent communicator, passionate educator and strong salesperson
- Highly organized and process-driven
- Ability to communicate and engage externally to represent Tugende and generate investor interest

Education/ Qualification:
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
Work Experience:
- At least five (5) years’ experience in an investor relations, capital raising, private investment, capital markets or corporate finance environment
- Hands-on experience of >$50m transactions
- Experience as the primary contact for investors
