Kabale University is, therefore, a unique institution, enjoying the status of being the first ever institution of its kind in Uganda, to metamorphose from private to public – and having been granted a Charter – the last stage of accreditation by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education.

 

Job Summary:To assist in the provision of effective and confidential counseling services to students and members of staff.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides counselling and guidance to students and staff under guidance.
  • Assists in monitoring the progress of staff and students who have undergone counselling and guidance.
  • Assists in compiling and maintaining a database of useful information on guidance and counselling and makes it available to clients.
  • Assists in establishing and maintaining close working links with academic and administrative organs of the University that offer welfare and psychological support services
  • Participates in sensitization workshops or seminars for staff and students on matters relating to counselling and guidance.
  • Performs official duties assigned by the Counsellor.

 




Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • Should have a degree in Psychiatry, Philosophy, Counseling and Guidance or related discipline from a recognized university.

OR

  • Should have a degree in either Social Work and Social Administration; Education or Psychology with a Diploma in Counselling and Guidance.
  • Should have good communication and listening skills.
  • Should have a positive attitude towards people.
  • Should have good interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to relate to people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds.
  • Should be a team player.
  • Should have demonstrable attributes of sincerity, integrity, confidentiality and empathy.
