Job Summary:To assist in the provision of effective and confidential counseling services to students and members of staff.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides counselling and guidance to students and staff under guidance.
- Assists in monitoring the progress of staff and students who have undergone counselling and guidance.
- Assists in compiling and maintaining a database of useful information on guidance and counselling and makes it available to clients.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining close working links with academic and administrative organs of the University that offer welfare and psychological support services
- Participates in sensitization workshops or seminars for staff and students on matters relating to counselling and guidance.
- Performs official duties assigned by the Counsellor.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Should have a degree in Psychiatry, Philosophy, Counseling and Guidance or related discipline from a recognized university.
OR
- Should have a degree in either Social Work and Social Administration; Education or Psychology with a Diploma in Counselling and Guidance.
- Should have good communication and listening skills.
- Should have a positive attitude towards people.
- Should have good interpersonal relationship skills and the ability to relate to people from a diverse range of cultural backgrounds.
- Should be a team player.
- Should have demonstrable attributes of sincerity, integrity, confidentiality and empathy.
