Job Summary: The General Manager, Individual Life shall be responsible for providing strategic direction to the agency teams throughout Uganda driving Individual Life business. He/She shall drive execution and delivery on the Individual Life Sales targets through a well-structured Agency team. The role holder shall be responsible for creating new markets for our Individual Life products while accentuating our position in the markets where we are already leading through excellent customer service. The role holder shall also ensure that all due premiums are collected on a timely basis to ensure sustenance of clients’ policies and delivering on our cardinal promise to our clients.
As a member of the Senior Management team, the General Manager, Individual Life shall contribute to the overall strategic and operational planning of the Company, and where required, lead project initiatives and product development
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for ensuring that the sales teams meet the individual life sales targets.
- Responsible for identifying new market opportunities.
- Responsible for overseeing the success of sales personnel right from Regional Managers to sales agents.
- Ensuring that all sales agents are properly accredited and licensed.
- Monitoring and evaluating the activities of the sales team.
- Coordinating and disseminating information between the sales teams and management
- Managing performance of the sales team, evaluate their performance and take remedial action where necessary.
- Contributing to the development of the annual sales plan and communicating it to the sales teams.
- Designing and driving sales incentives for the team.
- Identifying training needs of the sales staff and arranging for trainings especially on product and selling skills.
- Regularly reporting to management on progress towards meeting sales targets.
- Ensuring that the sales process is aligned to Sanlam set standards.
- Responsible for ensuring proper utilization of allocated resources.
- Responsible for identifying the risks associated with sales teams.
- Gathering market information/intelligence and updating management on market developments.
- Executing the business development objectives in line with the company’s sales strategy.
- Ensure that the sales agents adhere to code of conduct for both the company and the industry.
- Preparing for and presenting at Board meetings, BOD committee meetings and General meetings.
- Undertake other duties and projects as may be specified by the CEO from time to time.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant should have a Masters in Business Administration (ideally)
- Bachelors in Business Administration or any other business-related subject
- Diploma in Insurance is a serious added advantage
- At least eight (8) years of general management experience in a Life Company Sales Department.
- Similar experience in the Insurance OR any other financial services Industry.

- Be highly skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize workloads and be capable of managing a broad range of areas.
- Have sound judgement and a capacity for innovative thinking.
- Ability to motivate the sales team.
- Detail Oriented
- Be enthusiastic and motivated.
