About US:
The Jane Goodall Institute Uganda, with support from One Tree Planted, is implementing a three-year Wildlife Habitat and Corridor restoration project that is promoting tree planting on both community and NFA reserves in the Albertine region and specifically Hoima District and Kagombe Central Forest Reserve in Kagadi District. The long-term objective of the project is to contribute to the maintenance of ecosystem function (products and services) of catchment forests in the Albertine Rift region of Uganda through large afforestation programs and while doing so restore critical corridors for the endangered chimpanzees. Major activities that the project is implementing are: 1) Restore degraded areas in the community forest corridors in Hoima District; 2) Restore degraded areas in Kagombe Central Forest Reserve; 3) Promote agroforestry practices on community land; and 4) Strengthen Forest monitoring and law enforcement.
Job Summary: The Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Manager will primarily be responsible for project data collection, verification, and reporting. They will also be responsible for generating country specific periodic performance monitoring reports (Africa Program Global indicators and Country Project Portfolio performance). She/he will support implementation of the adaptive management best practices and guide project team through the process of learning from and making programmatic decisions based on the results of monitoring and evaluation data.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:

- Reviewing work plans, quarterly reports and donor reports prior to submission.
- Participating in field visits as well as initiating regular portfolio reviews, contributing to program evaluations and adaptive management processes.
- Developing and effectively applying performance management plans or similar tools.
- The MEL manager is expected to apply theories of change, results frameworks, logical frameworks, or similar tools for project design especially during project proposals
- Oversee monitoring and evaluation of implemented projects.
- Carry out any other work as required by the organisation
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- The ideal applicant must Master’s degree in a related field
- Minimum of five years of progressively responsible professional experience in a performance monitoring and/or evaluation role with an international biodiversity/natural resource and/or development organization. Proven expertise supporting monitoring and reporting activities in developing countries, experience in Uganda strongly preferred. Excellent research and survey writing and data collection methodology skills. Experience conducting data collection and quality assessment activities in the field.
- Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills;
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to summarize information in a clear and concise manner;
- Strong writing and editing skills;
- Proven ability to work with a diverse team in challenging environments;
- Experience with performance management of biodiversity and natural resources, climate change and/or development issues programs;
- Knowledge of specialized monitoring and evaluation tools and processes is a plus
